Breaking 406 2.1 Estate

Post by Biggles »

Hello

I am breaking this, not because it has failed an MOT, or that it is a bad car but simply because it needs a new Diesel Pump and the age and condition of the car makes this an un-economic repair.

The car still runs, in fact really well at 2500 + rpm, it just don't idle very well.

I will sell it whole, or bit by bit, but I won't do the disassembly.

Let me know if you are interested. [email protected]

Are you sure it's the pump and not the needle lift sensor?

Needle lift sensor won't cause rough idling, but rather run at reduced power and very hesitant over 3000 rpm.

Symptoms: Irregular idle, impossible to drive smoothly at low speeds but fine when you hoof it, occasionally sounds like a tank with no oil in it.

D8 or D9, what colour, and what state's the bonnet in?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

@Steve
I had a needle lift sensor failure and symptoms were none of those listed. Mine was just down on power and extreme hesitation over 3000 rpm. But could be different for other cars :D

@MJB 2.1TDs only came in D8s.

Mine was doing what it did for about 2 years, eventually it got undrivable (traffic queues were a nightmare) so I took it to Pug who said injection pump :shock: . I took it to an injection specialist to have the injectors changed (hell, Haynes said 100,000 km and mine had done more than twice that). They stuck it on their diagnostic and said it was the needle lift. It was a completely different car when I got it back and so smooth it was increadible. Maybe they can fail in different ways :? but I think the moral is GET A SECOND OPINION Mr BIGGLES! :cheesy:
