The hinges are buckled and won't close, so they're in the boot, and the bonnet doesn't even fit in the hole any more (although I've stamped it a lot flatter than it was!) - it's just resting on top, held on by the catch.
I don't know how far away your local scrappy is but you could drive it there and fit the bonnet yourself; take it home and get it booked for the mot work :?:
Last time I looked for a bonnet I had to go about 30 miles, and at the moment there's nowhere inside that sort of range that has a D8 one. I don't want to risk that sort of distance in an un-MOTd car without a bonnet either - the chance of being pulled by a copper is bloody high. If the hinge mounts are as twisted as they look I'd need to do the return trip with it in the boot too if I can't hammer them right.

As far as I can tell I'm looking at £60 for a pair of hinges from the stealer, and £120 for a painted pattern (read: not-fitting) replacement which'll look odd due to not being sun-bleached. You can buy a whole 406 for that money :(

Have you got any mates that could give you a lift to a breakers yard? You'd get a bonnet on a roof rack!

None which have roof racks (already thought of that)

Can't - the only place I've got to store it is the over-subscribed carpark at work. People have already complained about it hogging a spot :(

Hire a van to pick one up then, the cheapies aren't that dear for a day

Edit: Failing that, if you've got a willing mate, You could put a couple of pieces of timber on the roof of their car (with a blanket underneath), open the front and rear windows and tie it to the roof

Yeah, it takes 2 people and a bit of maneuvering, but this is the 2nd bonnet I've ended up throwing in the back of mine at the side of the road :(

Thanks for the offer, but my dad's stepped in to help with replacement. Thank god!

Is the D9 really that bad it makes you froth at the mouth? :P
