I've got all the high res pics now, and emailed those that have asked for them.
Turbo's never will be smooth, especially if you crank the boost up enough to have "The Great Wall of Torque" (visible from space) that suddenly erupts when it decides to wake up. There's a quote somewhere about Chief Engineers admitting that fitting a turbo is their way of saying they have failed to produce enough power from the block. Can't find it now

Re: My D8 V6 Exec on eBay
A blower is just a way of getting more power from a smaller engine and if you realise that a "turbo" or exhaust gas powered turbine supercharger is the same idea behind a supercharged Merlin or a Blower Bentley (240 Hp in 1926 ffs!) without all that tedious messing about with engine driven compressers then perhaps you could view them in a better light.
Come to think of it, I seem to remember one car that a straight 6 (?) engine, 5 of which when suck, squash, bang, blow and the front cylinder was used as a compressor, I wonder what sort of difference it made over all six doing the four stroke thing.

Re: My D8 V6 Exec on eBay
You've never tried driving the 406 tubby - it's so gradual I've had a lot of people say "I thought you said this was turbocharged?" so you end up having to force a situation where turbo lag is obvious (drop down a cog or 2, foot off the gas for a bit, then floor it) just so they can go "oh yeah" ;)AndyV6 wrote:Turbo's never will be smooth

Dude stop talking wet, and get back to your days of wishing power was delivered so fast and smooth..... in your breathless v6, makes you wish you were a woman, because power deliver was so far up the rev range lolAndyV6 wrote:I've got all the high res pics now, and emailed those that have asked for them.

Re: My D8 V6 Exec on eBay
Throttle response in the v6 is so poor compared to the turbo its unbelievable.... the tubby shout have been 250hp easily lol
Re: My D8 V6 Exec on eBay
What? Both tubbies I've driven have the sort of throttle response that involves making a cup of tea between putting your foot down in neutral and seeing the noisy side of 4000rpm... The only saving grace is that it pulls like a diesel only quicker in any gear from any revs between not far from idle and 4500niz406 wrote:Throttle response in the v6 is so poor compared to the turbo its unbelievable.

Re: My D8 V6 Exec on eBay
Well, I'd still take a V6 over a tubby, especially seeing as the fuel economy is the same.
2003 - 2008: 1998 Peugeot 406 2.1 TD 110bhp LX Saloon
2008 - 2009: 2004 Honda Accord 2.2 CDTI 136bhp Executive Saloon
2009 - 2013: 2002 Peugeot 406 2.0 HDI 110bhp Executive Saloon
2013 - 2021: 2007 Peugeot 407 2.2 HDI 170bhp Executive Saloon (mapped to 213bhp
)
2021 - ????: 2016 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi 180bhp Titanium

Re: My D8 V6 Exec on eBay
Doubt it. We'll soon see ( ;) ) but I used to be able to maintain 50mpg on the motorway. As long as you stay off the boost, the tubby's a surprisingly frugal motor - it's just offset by the big SLUUUUUURP you get when you use that little pedal on the rightCaptain Jack wrote:Well, I'd still take a V6 over a tubby, especially seeing as the fuel economy is the same.

Seriously? Wow you must have driven two beat up tubbies... lolmjb wrote:What? Both tubbies I've driven have the sort of throttle response that involves making a cup of tea between putting your foot down in neutral and seeing the noisy side of 4000rpm...

They may have lazy cams..... but seriously, it is responsive when the pedal is used correctly !
