Shortly time for a mini service namely...
fuel filter + housing
air filter
pads front and rear

any suggestions (apart from fook off ) on where to obtain above
items at a reasonable cost will be greatly appreciated

thoughts on if to use genuine or non genuine welcome

I get my filters from Halfords and the pads from a local factor (Lucas brand - apparently the ones pug put in a blue box and charge 5x more for)

Hey you wise guys, I'm still fretting about this "don't just change the fuel filter, change the whole thing", um, thing. I changed just my filter and my pump got very noisy, did I do it an injury? So James says change the whole thing, housing an' all, but I'm thinking "wouldn't you need to put the new filter in the new housing and get dust in it anyway?" But then I read elsewhere that even Pug change the housing too so...

Does the bluddy housing come with the filter inside all sealed up in a lovely, sterile and air tight bag or what???????????????

Ah diesel fuel filter. Yeah it seems the smallest bit of dirt is enough to screw up both pumps on a bad day so the general consensus is to replace the lot instead of risking a huge repair bill

But but but... does it come sealed in a bag with new filter in situe? It seems a bit pointless if you have to fiddle about putting a new filter in and attatching the thing to the car. Or is the risk from a bit of grit already sitting in the filter housing??

I get most of my "essential" parts from the stealers themselves. Normally the same price as Halfrauds etc..

Why do you change the filter housing? I just unscrew the 4 allen bolts, remove the cover with a tube coming out of it and replace the filter... Piss easy.

pissing myself at that one i'll just nip over at the weekend and see if he's cheaper

the reason for buying the housing at the same time is apparently its hard to get the top off
and the plastic can be easily broken so better safe that sorry

Use a strap wrench.

It's the only place round here I can get the right windscreen wipers too (including the stealers). There's a new one opened up in Klinča Sela, must give it a try sometime.

Just changed mine last week . MIne is the black plastic screw top type from a 90 hdi 1999, what a pain in the arse it turned out to be , getting the top off is hard , poped the new filter back in ,( comes in a sealed bag ) but getting the top on in its lock postion is hard going using your hands , got mine on , 2 cm short of the lock postion , but it was closed , checked it for leaks . OK , Would correct that at a later date. Put the engine cover back on and pushed it down and the cover bloody cracked the inlet pipe, two repairs later 60 miles from home no good , had to take the works van home . Next day trip to the scrappy , £40 replaced the lid but using a belt wrench to close the lid this time , £4 from ALDI, , So make sure you get a belt wrench and keep an eye on the plastic its very brittle .
