to all those 2.1 td lx owners. What is your MPG like?

In my Vectra, I was getting between 80-100 miles to a tenner, but it seems the Peugeot is only getting 65-70.

When i got the car (sat) the low fuel light turned on but after a minute of driving, it went off. I then put £20 in at the next petrol station and I then drove until the light came on again. I then put a tenner in.

In the Vectra I had a bad habbit that i don't want to have in the Peugeot, where I was using the reserve as a quarter of a tank, instead of putting more diesel in.

I have no idea what a "tenner" is or how much diesel you're putting in or how many miles you do to that amount of diesel. What you need to do is the brim-to-brim test. I.e. fill it up to the brim, reset the milometer, empty the tank (you don't need to but gives a better estimation) and fill it to the brim again noting down the amount of diesel you put in. THEN you work it out.

As a guide I can get a minimum of 600 miles out of my tank and the most I've done was 675 before I chickening out - so 700 miles is probably the most you can get. MPG wise, I get anywhere between 42.5 and 46. The most I had was 50mpg driving at constant 85mph for hours on end in Europe.

Based on the assumption that a litre of diesel is 108p ... £10.00/1.08 = 9.26 litres. 70 miles / 9.26 = 7.56 miles per litre * 4.546 = 34mpg ... which, to be honest, is quite rubbish. Unless you are REALLY caning it....

But you really need to do the brim-to-brim test to get a better idea.

I put in a £10 assuming i'd be able to work out a rough guestimate on how many miles i'll get,

i'm still getting used to the car so I am probably over using the accelerator but only when I forget which car i'm in or when I need to use the extra power I have, which is rare.

I may fill her up this weekend and see what i get

driving round town, short journeys, car not warmed up much, I only get @65-70 miles on a tenner .... the 2.1 only seems to come into its own on long motorway journeys - mine'll do 100 miles on a tenner at a steady 80 or so on an m-way. I think the problem in town is that it's easy to go for the power option that is available, lots of quick acceleration and all that ;-) ... it helps a lot if you can restrain yourself and try not to kick in the turbo too often. This is my experience anyhow. It's a great car apart from the puddle that keeps on forming in the rear seat footwell .... but that's another story!

The puddle is a problem I had with my last car, the heater matrix was leaking.

i'm still getting used to the ultra sensitive accelerator pedal, and the fact that when i'm in 5th gear, I don't have to knock it down to 3rd/4th to try and over take someome a mile way.

I haven't seen a cloud of smoke yet either.

My driving is mainly around this little town with very little motorway work (but no traffic jams), my car also sits idling on winter mornings while I scrape the ice off and in the afternoon while I'm waiting for my girlfriend to escape from work - in the winter to keep warm, in the summer to keep cool. In my 2.1 a year of bills averaged out to 38.35603554 mpg, the 2.0 HDI now says 41.5 - not a lot different really.

Well I'm still going on the £10 of diesel (9.13 litres i put in) and i'm at 80 miles so far.

My light came on which is why I asked originally but it has gone off. It keeps on coming on for a short while but the next time I got in the car, it was off.

9.13 liters for 80 miles = 39.8343045 mpg, and it's not run out yet!

Not that bad then really..

Just sick of having to pay upto £112.9 per litre. I was debating whether to goto a Petrol purely for the reason that it would cost about the same to fuel/insure a petrol car as it would be a diesel, although I think i've made the right choice in getting a pug!

Thats the most i've seen so far, whilst driving back from East Lothian (Scotland) after picking up the car there were a few BP garages with the sum... Although they have just announced huge profits..

I wonder why?

My HDi 110 is doing 36.7MPG on my steady but fast 11 mile run to work. It's rural roads and 70MPH is the norm plus it's hilly and I have to pull out sharpish to join the flow about 5 times. James said he was easily getting 40 in general use but I can't get that.

The only time I can get 48 to 53 MPG is a long run and after the first 1/2 hour driving.

Diesels, door to door stop start will do about 35 MPG, a petrol about 25MPG

On a long run a Diesel will do 45 MPG and a petrol 35 MPG. This is my experience generally.

You know it's impossible to acheive manufacturers figures for MPG as they are caried out in unreal situations. When you get in traffic the MPG takes a big hit. I know someone who's bought a 330d and expected to get 40MPG but is only getting 32 MPG

Forgot to mention that 90% of my driving is on A roads and motorways.

From what I remember of my 2.1TD, I think you should expect 40mpg give or take 3mpg, depending on your driving style and where you live (hills, windy roads, etc)
