Bad starting and running problems

Sometimes when starting from cold (406 petrol 2001) it will run very rough on tick over and stall if I was to lift my foot off the pedal, sometimes if I turn off the engine for a few mins and then restart, it will be fine, it will only do this when starting from cold, and not everytime.

My engine light has been on for about 2 weeks now, sometimes after having the dodgy start problems, it will flash, but once it has warmed up the engine light is constantly on.

I have had the ecu checked out by a guy that does this as a job and he can't find any faults with the ecu when he conects to his laptop.

Other than theis engine light problem and the occasional misfiring engine on a cold start, its seems to be ok, can anyone help me with this problem
