Silly Remote locking question

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Silly Remote locking question

Post by gRoberts »

Hey all,

Nothing important, but wondered whether my indicators should flash when opening the car or not?

I'm finding it a right pain during the day to work out whether my car is open before I try opening it lol.

As above, its silly..

Cheers

I find the door handle works well in these situations...

So the point of remote locking is?

I might as well just stick the key in the lock and then I will know its open lol

When I lock the car, the lights come on for a second or two, but when opening the only notification I get is the interior light which is a bitch to see in the light lol.

Just wondering whether it was normal or not.

How much did it cost you to fit doors that automatically open themselves? Sure us mortals can lock/unlock them remotely, but it's still a load of effort to open the doors prior to getting in and out...

The hazards flash whether you lock or unlock the doors so you can't really see except at night because the courtesy light (turns on when you open up, goes off when locking) is only visible then. I just listen for the two clunks of central locking and then deadlocking during the daytime.

Ahhhh so that's why D9's have bonkers flashing - to differentiate between lock and unlock! in a visual way. 8)

So should they light up when unlocking?

Pretty much every car i've seen with factory remote central locking have a flashing sequence that is different depending on whether your locking or unlocking/

I wonder if there's a flicky switchy thing in the drivers central locking motor that works the indicators during the lock/unlock and yours only works on the lock phase?

I really shouldn't comment on things I know nothing about

Well I suppose the whole purpose of this forum is to help those who don't know... Know.

Any other D8 LX'ers out there that can take a quick look at theirs?

I've got a D8, but it's an exec.
When opening, the indicators flash quickly, when locking, they are solid for a second.
This is also the same as my mom's 306. The way she told me to remember which is lock and unlcok is that they flash eagerly when you unlock it because it's excited to get going. Then the solid lock is a safe "no one is getting in here" lock.

Don't know why, but it works........ I think I might be slightly loose upstairs

Certainly

On my N Reg LX, the indicators come on for a second when I lock the car but do nothing when I unlock.

Just to make sure I've just tested it and given some poor drunken sod a shock as the car lit up like a christmas tree when I locked it (I was indoors hidden from sight) I think he thought the 406 had a life of it's own!!!!

Funny you should say that Mike, on the D9, if you press the large "lock" button you get a sustained burst of the "bonkers flashing" that you get when you unlock it. It's designed to help you find your car in a car park, but many a time I've done it when pisseads or youths are passing, and my favourite one is if I'm watching someone else parking next to it and they're getting a bit close, they get the flashies!! :frown:
