Autoglym California Water Blade - very good...

I have been using this for a few weeks and think it's fantastic! It saves so much wringing-out of the leather and leaves the surface much cleaner without smeary marks

It can't get everywhere on the car but does 90% of it, even the doors. At the end I just go around with a nice clean leather on some of the edges/corners where the blade misses.

I reckon it saves probably 5 to 10 minutes and you certainly get the feeling the job is done MUCH quicker so I thoroughly recommend

You just goes down to Halfords and pick one up. It's with the Autoglym stuff.

Be aware of other makes though I bought this one because it felt like quality and was around £17.00 I think

@Captain - yes it justs glides over the surface collecting the water against the blade and a T shape on the edge. It's so precise that it leaves no water behind! in fact you have a job dragging it across the windscreen because the contact is so good. I thought it might be a load of bollocks but was very pleased and use it every time. I think it will be good in the summer when you struggle getting round the car fast enough with a Chammois.

Never worked out how to use a chamois... Just seems like dragging a wet lump of barely-absorbent leather around a wet car doesn't actually do anything! Personally I just throw a bucket of cold water over the car then leave it. Tried an old wiper blade, but although it did a good job of drying, it made no difference to how the car looked the next morning so I just stick to the rinse cycle.

Never had much luck with the chamois either, although I have been known to use an old towel to dry the car....

My dad used to use a garage forecourt windscreen wiper (I nicked it in Canada, bastards wouldn't just give me water to stick in the washer bottle ) to get the majority off, I tried the same on my Ashtray with a wiper blade but there was so much dust floating about all I did was scratch the painwork .

I bought a chamois over here, "one square meter" it said on the wrapper, yeah, half a meter each side It was crap too, so I got my dad to bring me a proper one over last year, soooo much better

What's the problem with Chamoises?
Chamois technique:
Soak it first, rince it a few times then wring out as much as you can.
You won't get it all off with just one wipe, semi-dry an area, wring it out thoroughly then dry it more.
Keep wringing it out.
If you drop it on the floor rush straight indoors and rince the thing out thoroughly.
When you're done rince it out thoroughly in clean water, then leave it somewhere to dry, preferably hanging (mine hangs in the shower.)

Wringing technique:
Hold it from one corner and allow it to hang, you may need to jiggle it about and use your other hand tio straighten it out.
Grab the lowest end and bring it to meet the top.
Repeat so that you have it like a sausage.
To wring properly, twist your wrists in opposite directions, then grab the chamois firmly and straighten your wrists.
When you've got out as much water as you can, grab it near one corner and shake it out.

Remeber, a chamois leather is LEATHER, don't wash it in anything other than water. If it's very dirty buy a new one.

Another tip: If you're not going to polish your car you can rinse it off with rain water, it won't dry and leave limescale rings. Or just wash it when it's raining

Really you would not believe the amount of damage those aqua blades do to the clearcoat of your car you will end up with micro scratch marks all over the car similar to swirl marks which are caused by poor washing techinque personally I use the microfibre drying towels so much safer
