Driving to Mainland Europe - Headlights

Hi,

I will be driving to germany and France in a few weeks and am currently looking into the method of adjusting my headlights so that I won't blind all the continental drivers.

Unfortunately I can't find any Infos on how to do that for the 406 (2002). For my old car (non pug) I had some stickers that I put on the headlights while driving there, but can't find something equivelant for the 406.

But the 406 also doesn't seem to have any markings on the glass to do it (unlike other cars).

Any ideas, or personal recommendations?

Check with halfords or invest in a pair of these bad boys

I bought a pair of genuine headlight covers/protectors of ebay and they
came with the markings on them and the stickers

You could just do something like this:
1. Get some stickers
2. Park squared up to a wall at night
3. Mark the headlamp beams and edge of the wings on the wall (pencil, chalk, etc)
4. Hold the sticker over the lens until it's about right for the reverse of the opposite lens, then apply

Or just drive in the daytime (naughty ;) )

You have to drive with your headlights on in the daytime in most of Yurup anyways.

Dare I say it, ask Pug. Just decline when they try to sell you new headlights...

I drive in Europe a lot and all I do is to adjust the headlight aim down with the settings by the ignition key. I have never bothered with those headlight things and never had a problem. The worst thing you have to watch out for on the country roads is when there are no road markings, and there is a turning on your right then if there is a car at the "junction" on your right who wants to turn left, then they will have right of way.

It is a really mad rule and has caught me out a fair few times.

They do it in France, Belguim, Holland and Germany. A really stupid rule that always gets you at the end of a long drive. The last one happened with a coach, he sat there at the junction until I got really close then pulled out and made me do an emergency stop, it's only on the side streets or small lanes.

I drove through two of those on the way here and it never happened to me. I was driving an overloaded lwb trannie at 80 most of the time so there wouldn't have been much left of them either

Buy some BLACK TAPE, and stick to headlights like so:-


I drove that car from Nice to Newcastle, via Paris at midnight and never got stopped by Police.

Just drive as normal and listen for the sounds of impacts behind you.
If no-one crashes and dies you are probably ok.

*Disclaimer - In no way would I ever suggest that blinding and injuring, killing people is acceptable just because they are French or German*

You only need the round part, & they come with diagrams to show exactly what to stick where for a 406. They stick well to a clean headlamp(mine have been on for 2 years so far).Hope this helps

Argh yes - in Spain there is a culture amongst locals and the Police to blame motoring tourists for accidents on their roads whether it was your fault or not. Seriously - they do blame tourists and their legal system and 'selective' language barrier usually results in the innocent tourist being blamed, after all the tourist will normally have a hire car with full cover and expenses waver etc etc as you would your own car.

Drive on the right side of the road and go the wrong way around roundabouts.

Drive like the french and just dont care.
