Hi all, im new to this site and would very much appreicate it if someone could help me out with a little problem. I started driving a 406saloon that belongs to a friend and one of the headlights doesn't work. So i went out and replaced the bulb and still no joy, however when i flashed someone to go the full beam worked. I switched the bulbs round in the front and the same happened so i know the new bulb isn't at fault. I checked the fuses in the engine bay and under the steering column where i found 3 or so fuses had blown so replaced them. However this hasn't cured the problem so the only thing i think i havent checked yet is the relays. Where can i find these and what am i looking for? My haynes manual seems to be useless on the subject.
I have also noticed that the lights behind the speedo and rev counter have gone but the fuel gauge light remains, im assuming this is linked as i am told they went at the same time. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Edit: Sorry, just incase it makes a difference its a 1997 R reg 406 1.9TD saloon.
Hi,
From what I know about the headlights is that the full beam and normal driving light bulbs are different, so have different wiring. Thats why full beam worked when you flashed someone, intrestingly tho, both bulbs are H7's.
I'm not 100% sure, but the bulbs behind the speedo and the headlight bulb not working is maybe a bit of a conincidence. I know I need to change a few bulbs behind my clocks, but hey, job for a warmer day.
I would have a good look at the connector for the light that's not working and make sure it's not guncked up, or corroded slightly. Make sure it has all the wires going into it and none of them are corroded or broken, just make a comparison between the one that works and the one that don't.
Yeah, the full beam and the driving beam, also different bulbs for sidelights
I don't know if this was a design feature, but if you have a normal driving bulb go, for the meantime you can put a full beam bulb into it untill you get it sorted. Just so you don't have to drive around with only one driving light. The later 306's are the same.
