There's also 'aircon bombs' you can buy which is an aerosol you set off in the back then leg it out the car with the doors+windows shut, and the aircon (and engine) running.

I tried the Comma air con 'bomb' in the FTO and it was shyte - just seemed like a strong air freshener to me and the fusty smell returned a few days later, mind you it was an import so I blamed the Japanese - I reckon they all sit in traffic jams with windows closed farting like mad

I've allways thought the 406 scores well in the non-smelly air con department - I've never had a problem at all.

Of course they do 'cos if they do it anywhere else they have to commit hara-kiri.

My D8 stinks, I had the interior in bits last year and cleaned it out with a hose pipe and detergent, I've never seen anything so dirty. It was so hot here it only took a day to dry out and it was lovely and fresh 'til I turned on the air con - fuj!

must admit with all this damp warmish weather the black pearl is honking like its namesake, like a ship full of decomposing pirate sorts thats spent most of its days in davey jones's locker im expecting barbosa to pop up from the back seat asking for his black pearl back :P

the kind of solution ive narrowed down to definetley being the pollen filter under the passenger side scuttle plate ( why did i snigger when i typed scuttle, such a child at times ) anyroad ive thought about taking it out, blowing it out, or hoovering it out, and soaking it in some nice smelling solution or maybe some fresh n vac then wrapping it in a towel or sumot and chucking it in the tumble dryer or getting the hair dryer on it, i know im a tight arse i could just buy a new one but why when you can mend the one you have, it aint gonna get any worse with it smelling like barbosa's tash.

oh yeah whilst im in tight arsed mode, did you know that you can use brasso instead of t-cut as its the same stuff, just that ive found brasso is a lot less course and its easier to get off as it aint got no wax in it, granted it smells of unmentionable parts gone rotten, and while im on t-cut and brasso, theyre brilliant at getting scratches out of cd's, if ya think about it, it does make sense :cheesy:

i better go, im going off on a bit of a tangent here..... ( leaves with a bottle of vinegar and a lemon )

Brasso stinks of ammonia, I'm not sure what it does to rubber. Be careful of the lable side of the cd, the solvent in T-cut can lift it (are you sure it's wax?) I always wondered if spraying a scratched cd with clear laquer would do anything.

nah i wouldnt use it on the label, as it'll no doubt polish it away or just smear it and make it smell, i tried it on a single cd i had years ago, worked a treat as the scratches in a cd are like scratches in a record, it'll skip, but the only thing making a cd skip is a scratch on the surface of the disk itself not the data, fair enough if the scratch is deep enough it can cut into the data part as well, then its hard $hit the data is stored magnetically on the film below the lens as cd's are in 2 parts, the basic plastic disc, then a layer of data film on the top, then a liquid laquer is spun onto the data film and baked dry, its like having a scratch on ya glasses, you " look around " the scratch, untill you polish it out and restore ya bespoke-fitted 20-20 vision.

.....ahem, anyroad smelly vent :P

I've noticed that due to the recent Warm/Cold/Rain/Warm/Cold/Rain this week I have been switching my air con on and off where I want heat in the morning and cooling at night. This morning I was getting a distinct 'eau de canoe' coming out the vents :frown:

I was always told the smell comes from bacteria growing on damp parts of the AC as condensation forms on it. I was told a good way to cure it was to run the AC with the temperature set at the highest temp for around 15 minutes to clean the affected parts.

It might be worth a try.

tis true that AC does prove a good breeding ground for bacteria and fungus as its damp and warm at the best of times, and over the winter months its rare that its not goin to be used on a cold setting so like welly says its gonna get cold, then warm, damp and stagnating ready for the bacteria to spread. trouble is that some of them nasties can be quite harmful to you, specially those with respiratory problems. other than them pine fresh stink bombs ya throw in and shut the door and do one for half hour only for the smell to return 2 weeks later, djheath is near enough right.
If you run the car with the a/c off and the temp on the highest setting it dries out the pollen filter & the evaporator the only snag is the engine has to get up to temperature to make enough heat, and then ya gotta find time to dry out the evaporator and pollen filter it does take quite a while to do, but does a better job than pine fresh stink bombs.
Another reason maybe that the evaporator condensation drain has become clogged and not draining the stinky run off so it sits there and makes a bad rank smell. i havent checked mine yet as mine does hum a little bit but i burn it off with the temperature set high, ill investigate how easy the evaporator is to get to, i know on a frontera it aint no fun, im expecting to follow a same trend somehow
