Heater blower not blowing help needed

Post by organicgardener »

Hi, Im new to the site and need some help.

The heater works fine both hot and cold temps can be felt with the hand, problem is that no matter whether i put the fan on at all or any of the 4 manual speeds it still doesnt blow any more rapidly,
Ive bought a 2nd hand blower from ebay and plugged this in but it still doesnt work. There is no control module housed in the blower. Its a 99 T reg with computerised A/C control etc in the dash, can anybody help with the problem?

Is the fan actually blowing? You should be able to see if you remove the pollen filter and shine a light down the hole. If it's not I'd check the fusebox first.

I'm guessing from the "no control module" you've got a D9? If so I'm out of ideas short of a wiring fault...

Yes its a D9 - and the fan does not turn at all, ive read that the brushes get worn which stops reating the electrical field for it to turn, could it be that my second hand blower has the same problem, or is it definitely a circuit fault.

I don't mean to be patronising but have you checked the fuses?

Just checked every fuse and relaced 5 or 6 more that even remotely looked tired or dull.
Is there a relay which controls it or is it just the fuse?

had this prob on my Xreg 110 hdi , the climate control lit up but when you touched the buttons
you could not hear any of the flaps moving and the blower didn't work. I checked fuses etc everything
fine , eventually narrowed it down to ignition switch , when i slightly wiggled the key i heard the blower
kick in it turned out ignition switch was loose causing a break in current to wire going to blower etc,
tightened it up cable tied wire sheath to steering column all ok. One other thing the blower motor has
got a control module attatched to it might be worth checking that
.. ooh are those drugs for me Matron

You can hear the flaps move and the heat does get directed to the windscreen, centre vents and footwells when you change the direction. All this works fine. It is just that the heater blower will not kick in or adjust speed. Whether the fan is switched on or not you still feel the small amount of air coming through the vents. any other help or ideas very welcome

My fan stopped working the other day, turned out to be the control module, located behind the centre console, £50.

The symptoms were, the display showed that the fan should be working, but it wasn't turning at all.
