No, I was too busy trying not to kill her. Thinking back, I should have told her to put her mouth over it...

Sorry to hear this James

Buy a crap bike next time that no-one wants (like mine, which don't need locking).

Check the house insurance for sure.

Fek me how much is your home insurance? My whole policy is only about £200 / year (£400K buildings and £50K contents IIRC). Plus I don't think you get NCD on home insurance like you do wuth cars, it ain't gonna be 65% anyway, prolly more like 20%. Claim for the bike then pay the difference of the NCD until it builds back up James, you'd be much better off!

Right I just looked this up as a typical example.....
NCD- Maximum discount offered: 1 year – 5%, 2 years – 15%, 3 years – 30%, 4 years – 32.5%, 5 years – 35%.
So even if your premium is £400pa (which I doubt it is unless you live in a mansion) and they wipe out your NCD for a claim, it'll cost you 35%, then 30%, then 20%, then 5%, then 2.5%. So that's £140 in year one, £120 in year 2, £80 in year 3, £20 in year 4 and £10 in year 5, a total of £370, spread over 5 years, a damn site easier to stomach than losing £450 immediately. The other thing to consider is that the insurance company might not wipe out the NCD for 1 claim, they might do a "knock back" of a couple of years like the auto ones do for small claims, so you might loose virtually nothing (2 year knock back int he case above would cost £30). Worth looking into mate! :?

I'm sure there isn't NCD on house or contents insurance.
You have to pay the excess and that's it.
I'll find out for you tomorow James, I do work for an insurance brokers.
Really sorry to hear your news mate :(

I'm just in a rented place so I'm only covered on contents, but there's no NCD involved. In fact, my insurance has gone UP slightly over the past few years despite no claims

Generally I think you can be forgiven the odd claim every few years (except any excess) it's just if you take the piss all the time the insurance will go up up up!
