Rapid beeps

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Rapid beeps

Post by mjb »

4 short high pitched beeps (duration about 0.1s each, 1 second for all 4) from what sounds like a small piezo speaker (like a digital wristwatch). What is it? I've searched but can't find it on any wiring diagram (Haynes or Peugeot Servicebox paid area)

I heard it twice on my tubby - once was when I managed to run the battery flat and the other was when I shorted something putting the trip computer in. But I've heard it several times now on the V6 both before and after the trip computer installation. The V6s battery is very good - able to light a 60W bulb for an hour then start with the headlamps barely dimming and the usual positive starter sound

It's too short and comes at random so I can't locate the sound.

WTF is it? It's driving me nuts!

I get this on my D9 406 HDi 90.

The car starts fine then a series of random timed beeps like that of the handbrake left on variety.

I now know what it is. The BSI unit believes the battery is not charged sufficiently. :cheesy:

I have been doing a number of longer runs recently an all is well no noise.

My run to work is only 11 miles so it takes more out than I put backin so hence the noise.

Hope this helps you.

Not really. My car doesn't have a BSI ;)

Can't help wonder if something's shorting though...

From your description it sounds like the "beebeebeebeep" the inside/outside thermometer I put in my Ni$$an used to make every damn time I turned the key  Completely unhelpful I know... :P

Did the previous keeper leave a small wristwatch under the seat? :?

The only thing in my car that can make that sort of sound is the memory seats ECU under the drivers seat - have you got one of these?

OOOOH good thinking! Been trying to rack my brains for where the hell a little speaker could be hidden and not show up on the wiring diagrams... Think I'll be giving the connectors a wiggle tonight

Funny you should say that; I've got an aftermarket head unit and last night the front speakers stopped working... Could be a dodgy connection, what with the masses of space (or not) everything has to be forcefully crammed into...
