Golden retrievers, labs etc. are greedy buggers, they'll always want food & the trick is not giving in to them all the time or they'll do a Mr. Creosote.

Ah, young Welton me lad, you're doing what I used to do, projecting your English values where they don't apply. Here cats & dogs do a job - vermin control and theft deterant. Particularly in this village, people are as likely to sit down with Tiddles on their lap to watch telly as they are a chicken, and Rover's got as much chance of sleeping on the bed as one of the pigs. In fact, most dogs spend their lives, if not just shut in the yard, chained up too. They don't make it to the vet's very much, if at all. Cats are not "done", more often than not when she gives birth the whole lot go in a bucket of water. Yes, it's barbarric but it's no different to England when my dad was a kid.

I don't mind John turning up in my workshop, if someone did dump him on me it means they were too chicken sh!t to put him out of his mysery, and that would have been such a waste of a great cat. Basically, their loss, my gain.

Why thankyou! The sad thing is I can't help them all, at the moment I'm trying to fix one of my neighbour's (no idea which) cats, who I call Oggy. He's been top tomcat for a while now (he replaced Golem who got squished) but suddenly appeared like a stick figure. I've de-flea'd him and he's eating ok now but I draw the line at worming him - I only just got him tame enough to touch, there's no way I'm trying to force a pill down his neck.

His owners probably don't care though, if he dies they'd just get another (and you can imagine how many there are to choose from) but all these cats are individuals, they all have different personalities, just like people and sometimes I wonder just what makes us so special.

Well, Clarice - have the lambs stopped screaming?

Shame because both me and the Mrs are animal lovers and would love a cat or two.

Jesus H Christ, how can people let a dog get into such a state? Maybe they should be sterilized, after all if they can't look after a little dog how on earth would they manage with kids? :? Well done for saving him anyway, he does look a happy little chappie now :D

Nice gee-gees too, takes some responsibility! I've never ridden a horse but I've been bitten, it bluddy hurts!

My GOD!!! I'm not a dog person, but I really want to inflict pain on whoever did that to the poor thing! How the f*ck can anyone possibly justify that kind of neglect? Even if you can't look after a pet, how hard can it be to just take it to a kennel or put it in the newspaper or something? Jesus... I hope they were prosecuted at the very least.

Suppose I'll have to dig out some pics of my cats now :)

But if you weren't at the other end waiting it wouldn't have happened!

He's left a lot of times (including this week) but hell, he always comes back

Those skinny dogs - enough to make me weep.

The owner should be dragged into the street for us to punish at will.
