Got a letter through the door this morning... "FINAL REMINDER" saying I have 7 days to respond to a NIP I haven't actually received. I know what it's for too - hard acceleration on an empty stretch of dual carrageway right after I got the tracking sorted. Came back the same way later and saw a talivan hiding in a bush. Bastards. Thing is I was only over the limit for a few seconds (took it just over the peak power in 3rd and backed off) and there's no bloody way on earth I could have f*cking hit anything because the road was clear and there's no entry routes on that stretch. Fuckheads.

Just worrying that I have to respond to the NIP by Friday and the bloody phone number on the letter has a recorded message saying they're only open weekdays! WTF am I supposed to respond to? ARGH!

If it's your first you'll get an sp30, 3 points and a smack on the wrist and it won't make any difference to your insurance. Just wait 'til you get some more! Second thoughts, don't. With that powerful car it's probably time you invested in a detector. Also, a mate of mine has something that does it by gps and swears by it.

I wonder if not sending you the NIP and just the reminder is a new way of stopping people contesting them.

The thing is I'd really not complain if a copper in a car caught me. I NEVER change how I'm driving when I see a copper - I happily drive past them as if they were anyone else whether they're doing their usual 10mph under the limit dither or if I'm doing 90 on a fairly clear motorway. They just don't have any problem with my driving because they exercise this strange concept called COMMON SENSE unlike those c*nts in the vans.

If I'm driving somewhere I don't know, I've got the ipaq (bluetooth gps and tomtom) in the car with the latest pocketgpsworld camera database on it (which incidentally didn't have this camera location on it until I added it). A detector is no use whatsoever against anything other than a GATSO. How long would it take a laser/radar operator to hear a beep and press a trigger? A lot less time than it'd take to slam the anchors on! Besides, these bastards must have got me from behind because I was definitely under the limit when I was driving towards them on the return trip

You sure that makes a difference Matt? How old are you? The reason I ask is that having had chats with various insurance companies over the years you're allowed up to 6 points before you get penalised (And i did tot up 6 points at one time! )

if its within your first 2 years, 3 points is bad

I think it only applies if you passed after a certain date; there's a 2 year probationary period.
I'm glad I did my car and bike tests when I did, no theory test and all the other bollocks they brought in!!

im not sure on the exact details, but if you past your test after a certain date, you can only get 6 points in your first 2 years, and minor offences give more points than if you've been driving more than 2 years
