Electrical problem with ciggy lighter
I have a problem with the ciggy lighter and it's back light. Recently on fitting a phone kit i followed the cars manual to find the mute wire, and then used a tester pen and on putting the pen to the ISO but could not get the stereo to mute by touching either wire, however i since discovered my car does not have a mute function. But in the process of doing this the ciggy lighter has stopped working the fuse is fine. Previously i could leave the sat nav plugged into to charge whilst i was away from the car. But now the ciggy lighter will only work when the ignition is turned on. I recently had the car into the garage to get the fuel filter changed and asked them to check it and they told me that i should only get power from the lighter when the ignition is on they advised me to speak to an autoelectrician. Can anyone advise me better on this.

You can fit the fuse in 2 positions; ignition switched or permanent live. If you have a look at the fuse you'll see an extra slot next to it; just shift it over.

Re: Electrical problem with ciggy lighter
how much did they charge?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
