2002 Volvo estate with hand-crafted roof rails

Post by Welly »

Out and about on Saturday I saw this beauty parking up in the distance and my senses allerted me to something not being quite right...

So, in the spirit of reporting my findings to you boys and girls I whipped out my new Samsung G800 (which is supposed to have a 5.0 mega pixel do-dad but I can't tell any difference) and captured the following images.

I first had to lay in wait as the heavily-bearded professor looking driver and embarassed looking passenger left the scene.

I moved in for some snaps and wanted to get some more but was getting strange looks so I had to leave with only 2.

anyway.....

Here's the overall look:

Yes, that's right! make-your-own Timber roof rails 8) :cheesy:

Here we can see the grain of the wood in all it's beauty. I popped into Homebase later and confirmed the colour to be one Sadolin Antique Pine 8) Look closely at the 21/2" No.10 Countersunk Slotted wood screw fixing and how the owner has 'notched out' to accept the cross-bars which were not in place (presumably for aerodynamic reasons) 8)

Hope you enjoyed!

Welly.

 Maybe Professor woodworm is currently working on a teak roof spoiler for the S40  I'll keep you posted

It was funny on Saturday, especially seeing the bloke, I suspect he went down to the Volvo dealer and was so shocked at the high price they wanted he left saying "Pah! - I shall make my own roof rails"

They look like beech. Note the clever "quick release" attatchments.

Yeah, but that's much more acceptable than the vulva IMO. :cheesy:

True, they probably took 20 minutes to make and only cost a couple of quid too, whereas the Uvula ones probably took a couple of days to make and look hidious.

I see all sorts of wierd sh*t on the roads here (eg. the Jugo with flames hand painted on with a 2" brush) but I usually can't be bothered to get the camera out, that time I was waiting for my other half (she has some sort of sinus problem) and was bored.

Ha ha ha! - I thought they were metal to begin with until I read 'Beech'.

Nice find fella - we should make this a regular feature on here.... 'weird stuff spotted' 8)
