Cant Lock car

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Cant Lock car

Post by amron »

Have been trying to lock my 406 but its not happening
Wont lock with the key fob have tried all the info on site and in manual with no avail
If I manually lock the drivers door it is the only one that locks
Same happens with passenger door

There are plenty of noises but no flashing indicators
When I lock from inside it is the same only drivers locking

There are 2 buttons on the fob what is the smaller button for :?

Dont want to leave the car unlocked
Thanks

This seems strangely familiar too..... :?

The small button is for the deadlocks.

Listen to each individual door while you try to lock it (don't bother with the small button for now, just use the big one) to see if there's noise inside. Does it appear to be making double noises. My guess is that it's locking then unlocking again immediately. It does this if it thinks one of the doors is open so check all the door switches too.

I'm sure we've been here before. :|

We are here again. My 406 will not lock itself on the fob, even unlocks itself at a whim.

If I force a manual lock it will unlock itself of its own accord, but after that will work on the fob.

This has happened after a back door got stuck and I freed it up with WD40. Lubricated all locks to no avail :(

A bit fed up to be honest. :frown:

Really fed up now, timed it the damn thing unlocks after 35 minutes of being locked.

It doesn't matter whether you are driving or stationary, all of a sudden clunk clunk. Then unlocked

If it were a sensor surely it would be bad all the time. This problem seems BSI related. May be time for a reset me thinks!!

Any other symtoms? The BSI went on the wife's 206 and that took out the central locking, intermittent fault as you say it would happen when driving and everything. However when the fault was apparent it also took out the indicators and wipers, not so good in busy traffic on a rainy evening. The other thing that would happen was that if the fault occured when you were away from the car, you could get into it by unlocking the drivers door with the key, but then the immobiliser wasn't deactivated, so it woudn't start.

Sorry only the Central locking. It started with a stuck rear door freed by WD40.

Now the car will not stay locked for 35 minutes or so. If I lock it manually it still unlocks itself bar the boot as that stays locked.

I notice that when it fails, locking the drivers door does not activate the central locking but the passenger side still attempts to lock all doors when activated, but bounces back open.

Shame really can't leave the car anywhere now until this is fixed. :(

Skylinemv yours is exactly same as mine I think mine is the drivers actuator so i need to get that checked.
I have found a way to lock my car not the best but least it is locked
1st hold down passenger lock inside car keep it down it will lock unlock then lock (only that door unfortunately)
2 push down lock on back passenger door
3 push down drivers lock (yours is same as mine wont activate the central locking which make me think it is the actuator)
4 push down back drivers and shut the door.
This works for me a bit of inconvience but better than lying open.
If the actuator is on its way out or failed then the C. locking ECU doesn't know the doors locked (just measures resistance).
Hope this helps Im not confident enough to take panels etc off so I need to get someone to check for me

Bit of a worry with the old insurance too - they don't like unlocked cars :|

All I can suggest is removing and/or checking all the central locking motors and wiring and maybe try a BSi reset.

Well update so far the unlocking seems to disappear when the dead locks are used. All has been good since I thought to try them last night.

Figure that out will you :)

The connector?

Good result Amron, will check my door out when the rain stops this weekend and see if it has a similar but intermittent fault.

Your locking sequence is identical to mine to secure the car when it won't lock.

I have a broken /loose wire which which will be replaced next week as locking is still intermittent but if I move the wires about I can get the car to lock :D
Skylinemv Hope you get to the bottom of yours.

MJB yes the connector, I got a hynes manual from ebay so hopefully I can get the proper names of bits on the car LOL :cheesy:

Took the trim off finaly and examined the connector. No loose wires :D

It was full of white powdery stuff so cleaned up with WD 40 and all seems okay at present. Lets hope it stays that way
