Hey,
My 406 D8 didn't come with an external temperature gauge and I was wanting to know what was involved to install it? It is just a matter of installing the temp sensor in the passenger wing mirror and the screen or is it ECU dependent like the installation of a trip computer?
Did the UK ever get the plain temp gauge without the trip computer?

Re: External Temp...
Dunno if you'll need to run wiring for it or if it's already there, but all you need to do is attach it directly to the trip computer unit. The pins can be looked up all over the place as it's on the common connector row, not the trip computer one
Can't say I've ever heard of a 406 with the plain temperature gauge - only the trip computer multi-display and the little tray

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

I thought once you removed the tray there was a connector behind there so you pretty much well just plugged in the screen....? My main query if it is just plug and play - I've seen 4cyl 406's here in Australia with the temp display?mjb wrote:Dunno if you'll need to run wiring for it or if it's already there, but all you need to do is attach it directly to the trip computer unit. Re: External Temp...
I suppose if the wiring's there and there's a positive somewhere then it *should be a simple matter of fitting the offending parts.

Re: External Temp...
You need to run a couple of leads from the trip computer to the wing mirror. You can lever off the top of the trip connector plug and add the wires; they push into a prong like blade and the top clamps them.
If you've got manual wing mirrors you won't have the wiring in place however there is a spare two pin socket behind the manual wing mirror which you could utilise; you'd need to trace the wires coming off the door loom inside the car and chop and splice in your new wires. I guess you'd have to drill a hole in the bottom of the passenger wing mirror and glue the sensor in place and run the wires through the innerds.
It is do-able, I went for the full monty and wired in electric wing mirrors with the temp sensor and trip computer. The biggest pain is getting additional wires through the door loom connector into the car cos it doesn't disconnect
