Wet rear seats & Boot :(

Post by gRoberts »

Hey all,

Does anyone have any idea's where water could get in, that would affect the boot and rear seats?

I had previously noticed a damp feeling in the crease between the back and bottom of the rear seats, but as I have kids, I had assumed it was where one of their water bottles had leaked a little.

When I pulled the seats up, I noticed a lot of condensation in area's and a steady stream of water running down the bottom of the cushions. I then took a look in the boot and noticed that under the carpet, there was a lot of condensation on the metal and spare wheel.

I've had a look underneath and I can't see what's causing it.

Anyone got any idea's?

Cheers

Gav

Hiya Gav,

IIRC the seals around the rear lights have been known to let water in.

Hmm, i've got a wobbly light cluster. Could explain a few things.

Do you have to buy an entire new cluster or just the seal?

caused by water leaking in through the rear lights (it is a saloon innit) mine did this so badly i had a puddle under the rear seats  mine only did it when it was parked nose downhill,so my fix was to park facing uphill, that was til i took it swimming of course

I removed the innards to expose the cluster and found why it was loose. There wasn't a bolt holding on one of the sides, so I found a suitable nut and tightened it up.

I assume I just need some standard bathroom/kitchen sealant?

How do we get rid of the water already in? Just leave a window open?

Run the air con for months? I have a dehumidifier which is one of the most useful things I even inherrited. Can you leave a heater running in there while it's parked over night? Maybe that and loads of newspaper. Can you take the bench out and stick it somewhere warm? Sound deadening too? At least this is the back end of winter.

One for the knowledge base? This or I think there was a couple of previous threads on this subject.

 that long.

It only appears to be a problem when it rains. We receive a local rag each week, I think i will take a few of them and put it in the boot and under the rear bench.

Thanks all!
