HOW DO I TELL A D8 FROM A D9hI ALL I HAVE BEEN CHECKING THE

Post by yogi44 »

Hi all i have been checking the forums and keep hearing about d8 and d9 how do i tell what the difference is?

I have recently aquired a v reg 406 hdi 90 which is turning over but not starting, but the previous person who owned it said it cut out would not start, and then a few weeks later she tried it again it started and run for a couple of weeks then she parked it next day it wouldnt start. i noticed the keys lock and unlock the car but the fob doesnt, does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong with it is it an immobiliser fault,or maybe the pump in the tank?

appreciate any help i can get as i am stumped.

Hi Yogi44.

V reg HDI 90 will be a D9 (Mk 2), you can tell 'cos it's got clear headlights and a mesh grille. The D8 is the Mk 1, that has a slatted grille.

Don't know about your starting problem but someone will be along soon :D . The fact that the key won't open the doors remtely probably isn't anything to do with the starting, have you checked the battery in the key? There's a way to reprogram the key to the car. IIRC it's to put the key in the ignition, hold down the big button while you turn the ignition on, keep it held down for 10 seconds, then switch off and try the remote.

That's nearly a year ago now, we'll have to do it again this year, anyone else offering to sort it or shall we have another tour of South Wales  ? Perhaps we could plan a better route and find a more appropriate place for a lunch stop, nowt wrong with supermarket cafes but I'm sure we could do better...

Yes, let's get together and fix each others' cars! In fact, James should definitely come along this time... in his not so French car..... But he can still fix them, right?
