Stupid question! Wipers won't "open".

Discuss the 406's Bodywork stuff in here (what parts fit what, what can be interchanged with what etc etc).

Stupid question! Wipers won't "open".

Post by djheath »

I washed my car for the first time today - 3 months after buying it. I went to "open" the wipers as in lift them up clear of the windscreen, but they wouldn't open up. They seemed to hit a small "bump" on the arm where they hinge.

I started the ignition and turned on the wipers and ignition off when they were half way across the screen but they still wouldn't open in that position!

This seems strange, am I missing something? I need to change the blades soon, please tell me you don't have to dismantle them to change them!!

Or am I being completely dumb!!  (most likely explanation).

Yes unfortunately they don't lift clear of the screen. I hate the idea myself.

Changing the blades is another interesting job and whatever you do don't try to remove the arms - they won't budge :x you need a special tool to get them off properly (one of our members smashed his screen trying this).

You can change the blades on the car but it is a bit fiddly and the old ones allways get mashed up in a rage getting them off

*Shakes fist at 406*
*Decides 406 not soo bad really*
*Feels bad, so hugs 406 and says sorry for doubting it*
*Buys it some new wiper blades to make it feel better, sigh.*

If you park them in the top position and treat them with good old mechanical sympathy they're easy enough to change. :?

Saves you having to give it a "damn good thrashing".

they're easy enough to change in the parked position - just takes a bit of practice ;)

pain in the arse they don't come all the way up though
