rear suspension knocking.

Discuss the 406's Bodywork stuff in here (what parts fit what, what can be interchanged with what etc etc).

rear suspension knocking.

Post by notajeep »

98, 1.9td estate.

I had the usual knocking at the rear end, and consequently replaced the tracking arms and a forward trailing arm mount. All was well for a few hundred miles.

I have now developed a similar knocking again on the drivers side. Closer inspection shows the only movement to be around one of the subframe mounting bolts. Bolt seems tight enough. I notice that one of the two bolts has a cup washer fitted (same on both sides) but the other does not. Should there be a bush or something in here? It is the most forward of the two bolts, right near the inner edge of the wheel where the movement seems to be. As far as I can see this is the only possible cause of the knocking, but can't under stand why it would have suddenly started, particulalry when the bolt seems tight.

any thoughts?

Sorry, I think we were trying to get a handle on what you were talking about. This would be the front of the car now? There's no subframe on the back.

Yeah, I'm lost  Maybe the bolt's still tight because it's still held in the metal sleeve but the rubber that's meant to be round it has long since left the building??? Remember, a picture says a thousand words...
