What's it worth?

Post by surj »

First of all, apologies if this should be in another area of the forum but I'm a newbie, lol.

I went to see a (V reg -99) 406 hdi gtx last weekend, with 94k miles (no or very little history), a couple scuffs to the bodywork, a large cigerette burn (50p size) on the rear seats and non functioning climate control (the a/c didn't work). It drove fairly nicely, not as quick as my previous 306 but to be expected.

It's up for £1695 but he said he'd knock off £100.

Does this strike you as a reasonable deal?

Also, does the gtx definately have cruise control? The reason I ask is that I couldn't see the stalk.

Cheers

On my Y reg GTX it had Cruise Control so I would assume that 1 might.

As for price, I recon £1,000 max, bit dodgy with no service history so I think £800 would be a nice price.
If it was mint condition inside and out with FSH then maybe £1,600.

Look on autotrader.co.uk for real price comparisons.

it won't have cruise at that age, it didn't come till the 2001 model i believe. my 99 v reg exec didn't have it and it wasn't an option either.

Private or dealer?

Bear in mind that as there is no history your going to have to spend a few hundred on it (good service + cam belt kit, water pump and possible crankshaft pulley). Personally I'd probably carry on looking, if its a dealer i don't think its too bad a price but you'd be better to take your time and get a decent one, should be a reasonable amount of them around.

Thanks for the advice guys, I suspected that it was overpriced considering the lack of history.
Will keep looking.

I'd be careful fella. To be honest there's loads out there so look at a few, compare a few etc.

I know it could be a freak accident but a 50p size burn  and with scuffs and no history I'm not sure it's been loved.

Have you considered an estate? most are owned by people who really care for them and the rear end looks much nicer and doesn't age the car as much as the saloon.

My pick of the week would be an X reg executive HDi 110 estate for £1,700.00 ish? I've got a minter T plate exec saloon and that would fetch £1,100.00 I think.

Hi there, I've not ruled out the estate by the missus (read boss) doesn't particularly liek them. She "only" likes Audi estates, lol. I guess I shoudl ask her to stump up the cash for one ans it's servicing, lol.

Am I right in thinking that the executive models are fully loaded or have the most toys as standard?

The exec gets:

JBL amp + speakers + 6CD changer
Auto-Dim rear view mirror (very cool indeed)
Folding wing mirrors
Heated electric leathers (drivers has 2 position memories)
Thick carpets and more sound proofing
A rear sunblind on the Saloon and a secret storage box on the rear shelf.

For the money you cannot beat the 406. And 406's climate control is the best out there.

The estate is very purposefull looking and a Woman driving one is very cool.

My weird AUS spec car has the sunblind and the storage box...its a base model with no trip computer or climate? :P

And don't give a lecture about Climate Control until you have driven an Australian built car.....Siberia on wheels, the 406 is pissweak (like your beer) in comparison! :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy:
