The Lion goes from Strength to strength
I've just come back from a jaunt to Manchester in the work's 407 SW 1.6HDi. Mixed opinions.
I drove all the way there with the climate control off, none of the buttons did anything and no heat/cold was coming out of the vents. I tried stopping the car, locking it and starting again (can you tell I'm a computer technician!!!), but nothing.
Then I got to Manchester, parked up, got some food and thought I'd have a quick go at the car before bed. I stuck the key in and hey presto, all working again.
Really doesn't do anything for my confidence in Peugeots that their still having these shitty, 'here one day, gone the next' electrical problems.
But overall, the 110bhp engine could do with more puff. Overtaking is a gamble. And it's a bit noisy at speed. But for handling and build quality (minus electrics), it's crisp and solid, knock spots off any 406.
After all that, I think I could still go for one next, but not the 1.6HDi, and not the SW (not the biggest of boots for an estate)
(And PS, I don't like Mancester. Give me Wales, more specifically, the Valleys environment any day)

Manchester is just a shitty scruffy town. I've been there loads of times.
As for the 407 I had a 2 day test drive of the SW 2.0 HDi 136bhp which was the Peugeot Dealer
Managers company car and it was very nice, plenty of go in the engine and nice 6 speed box.

The 407 handling is sublime, as it that sweet armrest
The HDi 110 I drove was a right letdown in the engine department though

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

a 1.6 engine in a big car like that
the 407 i had for 24 hours last year was the one to have tho ( if you got £27 k laying around ) , it was the GT HDI 170 twin turbo with every option you can think of
. it was a very nice car and it had some serious go in it
heres the specs from peugeot

Max Power bhp (Kw) at rpm 170 (125) @ 4000

I gave it a tap and all sorted.

Just wish the same technique worked with my fuel gauge and immobiliser light.

Re: The Lion goes from Strength to strength
In temper, I did give the dashboard a clout, but obviously didn't do anything.
I see a few people share simular thoughts of Manchester. I was staying at Salford quays (and didn't feel easy enough to want to wander further afield!!) and that was a lovely looking area, all new and redeveloped and immaculately clean. Unfortunately, like in many other places, redevelopment removed any character the place must have once had.
Waking up and hearing on the news that someone had got shot outside a Salford pub 2 nights earlier didn't do anything for my confidence!!
To be honest, I was never going to like the place. I felt all out of sorts, spending time from my missus, soft lad as I am.

Re: The Lion goes from Strength to strength
I'm like that mate, hate business travel, don't like being away from the family. That was part of the reason for the career change. Mind you it didn't help that I had to go to visit customers in order to take a bollocking for the incompetent fukwits I worked with, who could have avoided the issues if they'd listened to me in the first place.....neildavies wrote:I felt all out of sorts, spending time from my missus, soft lad as I am.
