I'm not familiar with fronting (the artical didn't explain it too well ether), but quinn haven't said anything. I'm a named driver so i have the same right as anyone else on the policy to drive and i don't think there are any limits.Eric wrote:Fronting is illegal by the way.Zippokovich wrote:Yup Quinn are my gods. Fronting
So be careful that you aren't the main driver.

Just be sure the insurance are ok with you being the legal owner of the vehicle and the insurance policy is in your Dads name.Zippokovich wrote:I'm not familiar with fronting (the artical didn't explain it too well ether), but quinn haven't said anything. I ran into a problem with this setup in 2001 when the bonnet on my Nissan Primera flew up and in doing so, wrote the car off.
The insurance took a week to process the claim and then came back saying they were not gonna pay me the £2500 the car was worth as myself being the legal owner and the policy being in my mothers name with me as a named driver was a breach of policy!
No Insurance payout meant the finance insurance on the car did not kick in. (Tiny tiny small print, the bastards!)
As a result, I'm still paying for that bloody Primera, its been a coffee table sized cube for 5 years.

Re: Just bought a Pug 406!
wtf? what happened? I've had 406 bonnets fly up on me twice (40mph uphill, and 70mph dual carriageway) and apart from a dent around the aerial mount the only damage has been to the bonnet and hinges...Blue406 wrote:the bonnet on my Nissan Primera flew up and in doing so, wrote the car off.

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Re: Just bought a Pug 406!
just register the car in your fathers name , thats what i done for 7 years and i had no problems

just dip me in chocolate and throw me to the lesbians
Re: Just bought a Pug 406!
The bonnet flew up at 75mph. It smashed against the windscreen and leading edge of the roof. The roof was buckled. Sunroof glass shattered and its working parts damaged. Windscreen totaled. Window wipers and motors damaged. Then the replacement of the bonnet lock and safety catch (which failed causing the problem in the first place). Apparently it was the cost of replacing the sunroof that made it cost so much the insurance wrote the car off.mjb wrote: wtf? what happened? Guess pugs are a lot sturdier than people give them credit for! Mind you the aerial mount is extremely well positioned to take the worst of the blow... twice....Blue406 wrote:The roof was buckled. If in reality you aren't just a named driver and you are actually the main user of the Vehicle then as far as the insurance company is concerned your insurance is void as they weren't given the right details.
The price they worked out would be for your Dad to drive mainly but you to be covered occasionally.
Fronting is using a parent or older driver on the insurance to pretend that they are the main driver and put the insurance down.
Re: Just bought a Pug 406!
According to that link, fronting is a criminal offence as it's classed as fraud and also driving with no insurance because the insurance policy is void.
So if you are caught fronting, not only can you be done for the above so can your Dad.
I would seriously reconsider fronting even if it means not being able to drive the 406 for a while and having something in your own name.
If it goes wrong you could lose your license then have the repercussions in insurance for a few years down the road.
But that's just me, whatever you do be careful

Re: Just bought a Pug 406!
How would they prove that you were the main driver of the vehicle? Even if your names on the V5, the V5 very clearly states that the registered keeper is not necessarily the legal owner. Surely, if anything happens, all you have to say is "my dad usually drives it but today I was" and no-one can say anything. Or am I missing something?

In theory yes hard to prove.steve_earwig wrote:How would they prove that you were the main driver of the vehicle? But insurance companies are slimy buggers at the best of times and anything they can do to weedle out of a claim...

Ahh, but i'm not the legal owner of the car, my dad is.
And i would never make a driving related claim anyway, it would be a theft or fire - which doesn't involve the driver. It would only be if i hit someone that the insurance would get to hear of the driver.
Anyway all the paper work is in dads name - his car, his policy.
