my new car

Post by darrenwall »

after getting bored of my fiesta and needing something bigger ( im expecting my 4th child in december :cheesy: ) i bought myself a landrover discovery 7 seater 8) .
you must all think im mad but its not as expensive as youd think to run , i done 230 miles out of £40 ( diesel £1.29.9 a litre  ) before it needed filling up again and 70 miles of that was up the m5 and m4 at 80mph with the a/c on so i dont think its too bad :? .
i was fancying a zafira but they r still over my budget of £2000 and the only other option was a pug 806 and i really dont like them . i did look at a 406 7 seat estate but when you got people in the rear seats you cant exactly put a pram in the boot and i would never put my kids in a crumple zone ( at least in the disco they are high up off the ground ) .
a question for Dai rees now :cheesy: are ther any tidy green lanes round our way and do you know many people with discos so i u can let me know what iv let myself infor thanks :cheesy:

That looks a nice clean motor (if a tad Leyland). Honest John says unstable and dangerous to stick anything on the roof (so don't) and zero crumple zones. Timing belt... manual gearbox... immobilizer... Hmm, can't be that bad, this is the same guy that makes it sound an act of god for a 406 to make it 100 yards down the road without exploding.

Just try not to sling it about - you cannae change the laws of physics...

tell me about , it rolls about like a fishing boat caught in a force 10 storm but then again its not fast enough to pick up much speed before a corner , 2.5 tonne and 110bhp

You have sold your soul to satan.
I detest 4x4s! Unless driven by farmers, they're totaly unnecessary.

Still, tis a nice example though.

D'ya know there aren't as many greenlanes around as you'd think, and those that there are wouldn't be good for a shiny like that, 'twould be scratched to hell and back by the time you got home. Let me think about it and check the legality of a couple of non scratchy lanes and I'll organise a guided tour for you  . In fact you're more than welcome to join us for a day out at a pay & play site in the not too distant if you wish to check out her capabilities.

I know several disco owners. Not much bad things said about them really, they can suffer a bit from metal worm, leaks and questionable build quality, but they're pretty solid and reliable. I trust it's a mk1 (200 TDi?) not a mk2. The TD5 fitted to the mk2 is a cracking motor but has some complex electronics that can cause problems (sound familiar pug owners? ).

i agree with you but that is the only way i could get a 7 seater with a lot of room for less than £2000 and the area i live is over run with speed bumps so now i dont even feel them :cheesy:

plus i think they look good covered in mud like mine does today after a bit of off roading

Funny that, all the 4x4s round here are the worst for slowing all the way down to 5mph for every single fecking speed bump! Drives me nuts

yeah that sounds like it could be a good day out :cheesy:

its a mk1 200tdi , i been told thats the most reliable engine . mine has got a little bit of rust under the rear wheel arches and in the boot floor ( but none on the chassis rails or inner wings where thats where it causes trouble ) but i got plans to get meself a small welder and do it over the summer :cheesy:

i was surprised when i seen it like that cos most discoverys end up being ripped apart by kids and dogs but mine has been looked after by previous owners , it come with full land rover service history every 8k miles , the receipts for work done was by a land rover main dealer ( even the timing belt 11k miles ago at a cost of nearlly £500 ) . i hope its not got used to it tho cos the way i am with cars it ll get done by myself every 20k miles if i remember 8)
