it was plastic
thankfully my pug dealer had the slave and master cylinder in stock, so both got fitted and bled, i got it all back together, and the clutch started slipping
i could put it in gear at idle, so i just left it running for an hour while tidiedup, and it was fine, and has been since,
so the car ended up with: Valeo/tecniclutch stage 1 clutch kit and solid flywheel, new flywheel bolts, driveshaft seals, gearbox oil, master clylinder, slave cylinder and all the hydraulic seals
so now im completley broke, and thankfully the car had a full tank of diesel, ive just gotta run the D8 outta petrol first
but to anyone thinking of attempting this, read the haynes, it really does help, and you do have to remove the front suspension subframe

Just get a new hydraulic system. The 406 hydraulic clutch is a sealed-for-life system with no way of bleeding. Go to a breakers yard, find a 406 with hydraulic clutch and yank the whole lot - master, slave, tubing and reservoir - without taking it apart. Just unclip the master cylinder from the pedal under the dash then both cylinders both come out by pushing in and twisting about 45 degrees. Taking the air filter box out will help

if it went bang before the clutch pedal went to the floor sounds like
its possible they didn't fit it correctly especially as you were driving it home
from the garage, also you say they have replaced everything except for the
clutch and it still doesn't work , are they a reputable garage ???
.. ooh are those drugs for me Matron

What was I thinking? Of course... there's 3 things I can see being broken:

1) The ball joint on the pedal where it meets the master cylinder has come off and caused the pedal to get wedged. Get under the footwell and have a look/feel. If the pedal springs back to the floor, and springs up if you move it back to the normal position, this is what's up.

2) The master cylinder was just push-fitted and not twisted in to lock it. It's on the bulkhead at the top, just behind the engine - If you can move it, line the dots up, push it in hard and turn it until it's locked

3) The spring attached to the pedal has come off.

Don't worry James my 407 2ltr HDi sw hasnt left the main dealer for last 2months (and over £2,000 on repairs) with one problem after another; in other words they fix one problem then create another, it doesn't even get to come out and visit me; on top of this I only traded my D9 in for it in March  So, your theory is correct; more electronics etc for emissions and toys = more time in the garage. This may well be the last Pug i have. At least the deal has said enough is enough, and I won't have top pay for anymore work to be done, on top of that they have give me a nice new 308 HDi 90 to get to and from work, and a 65mpg  I love it (407 did 42mpg) :cheesy:

At least the d8 you could drive it wie near anythin, Anyone ive talked to seems to have less problems with older peugeots. Fck electronics haha
