Only 4p to go to £6.00 per gallon

Post by Welly »

I work in gallons still and I just filled up with £30.00 of Tesco's finest 2008 vintage Diesel (may contain traces of nuts) and figured that this most precious of liquids is not too far from hitting the £6.00 per gallon mark   :frown:

I remember the £5.00 mark not that long ago

For the first time ever I now seriously think about stuff like "is this journey necessary?" and "can I make this a round trip to save driving twice?" etc etc. I've also adopted "Grandad Mode" to conserve economy as much as possible. I'm getting a nice steady 43MPG for the last 3 weeks but even that makes it 14p/mile thats £3.08 per day to do 22 miles :(

I am not a tight wad or anything by any means but I am annoyed at the rising cost of travelling - how are you all getting on?

Seen a hell of a diference in how much I'm ploughing into the car lately. I filled the car up just now from a quarter full, £70 it cost me. Got to be close to £90 for a ful tank.

They want us to get on public transport. It would take me 3 hours and 3 buses to travel 20 miles. Labour, specifically Gorden Brown, have lost any credit they may have ever had.

And just to piss me off further, the lorry drivers are now talking of blocking refineries again. They started loosing public support in 2000. But this time, they're only after they're own rebate from the government. Nothing to do with us ordinary motorists.

Talking of fuel prices... and if we can do anyhting to ease the burden (I now do 480miles a week arrrgghh!!)...has any one tried a (relatively) cheap & easy mod to get more MPG from a D8 2.0L Manual Petrol exec (apart from grandad driving) and apart from chopping in for a HDi?

Yup - done that already I reckon it helped a bit...certainly drove better on concrete bits of M25! I get about 32MPG which is better than the 25-27 I was getting on running around before (about 30-35miles a day) I moved job and started doing 94miles a day...

Am tempted to chuck in the 406 for a 306HDi if I can find a nice one (had a Gti-6 and loved it some years ago 8) )...

i read that today as well and spat my coffee out in disgust , i was all up for supporting them to lower the price but its not right that they only want it for themselves and any sympathy they had off me has gone now

Tape a sponge to the throttle pedal?

Don't bother with those magic beans you see on ebay - they're total snake oil

Thank god i don't have the V6 anymore :cheesy:

But saying that its about 15p a liter more for diesel over petrol. Whats all that about? Why are diesel drivers getting done over?
It wasn't that long ago it was only something like 5p more :frown:

But i am lucky enough to be able to walk to work, it only takes 5 minutes :cheesy:

Take the bonnet, boot lid and doors off, must be good for a few mpg :P

The cost of fuel here is getting perilously close to the uk (it just cost me nearly 70 quid to fill up from just under a quarter full), considering the average wage here is 500 quid a month I'm surprised people are still driving anywhere at all.

The oil companies have to get their cut somehow.
Diesel users use less fuel so a higher price offsets this.

It's why I use the motorbike as much as I can. I've always wanted a bigger bike but the way things are going I think I'll stick with my 500 and it's frugal economy!

Well by the looks of it, it wont be too long before pries hit 1.50per litre for diesel, every time i waken up they seen to have creeped up a little :x .... Our gordons speech on how to open up any of the remaining fuel reserves is total b0llox... How long is is going to take for that to get underway. Trying his best to lull his way out of the public demanding tax cuts... The rate of duty on fuel in the U.k. is rediculous and hard working people have to shoulder it.

How does it wourk out that the U.S currency is half the strengh of ours yet we pay double the price for fuel.... Also fuel duty to rise in the autumn... With fuel being a commodity that everyone needs the government will continue to tax it... :x :x :x
