406 air con

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

The condenser on the facelift "D9" 406 fails as regular as clockwork at about 7 years.

The guy that regassed it should have pressure tested the system and I'm surprised he never found a leak. I could be wrong but I think the gas has just pissed out again (it happened to another lad on here 2 weeks ago).

If you can give some more detail about the car it would help

You could look at the fuses but I don't think you'll find anything tbh. There's one fuse box near the battery and another under the drivers knee roll casing thing.

Sounds very similar to my D9 406 90 HDi.

Got it regassed passed all tests then the next day no aircon, no click.

After I forced the garage to redo it I saw the pool of lube oil weeping out of the bottom of the condenser.

So yes the condensers are rubbish. I need to get another and fit it when I can be bothered.

Well our very own Mr. skylinemv had the exact same thing happen to him at Kwickies.

By the way if you get an air con place to do the work it will be £300.00 they all know the 406's and have all done loads of them so £300.00 is the benchmark.

I don't want to come over all Bill Oddie-ish but I think it's piss-poor that Kwickies are allowing refrigerant to escape like this  I mean if it's happened to 2 of us in so many weeks then how many others across the country have the same :frown:

Kwickies should stick to hacking people's eggsauces and fixing my punctures for free.

everything welly said is correct, but, and this is a long shot.On one of the many
occasions i was pissin about with the work no work a/c i'd had it re-filled
and it worked, next day no click so got out the car to have a look, the compressor
not engaging so started wiggling wires.Looking at the car from the front look
at the left side of the radiator and you will see where the 2 a/c pipes go into
the condensor in between the pipes is a pressure valve with a elelctrical plug
on the top, i wiggled this and the wires =hey presto comp kicked in :) if you try this
cover it with a rag cos the stuff if leaks can burn as i found out :( .
.. ooh are those drugs for me Matron
