Low Brake Fluid warning when handbrake engaged.

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

My d9 does the beeping thing very annoying low brake fluid!!! To save time effort and more money on the pug    .

I use to try pulling hand brake up as hard as possible. Also applying firm pressure on the foot brake at the same time.

But it seems to return   .

So now to save passengers saying your brake fluid is low   I remove handbrake before starting and only appply once i have switched car off. Obviously with foot on the brake in both instances

Have been told the local steeler will replace the sensor for around £30. Not sure how true that is now though!!!!!! Or if it that would cure it 100%

Umm...

What I mean is, on D8s the low brake fluid light and the handbrake light (and presumably the pad wear sensor light) are the same thing on the dash, which is why a dodgy handbrake switch will bring up the light, making you think the brake fluid's gone walkies. On the D9 it's still the same light but the computer display tells you which it is (together with that beep that sounds just the same as the video game my nephew was playing in the back of my car when he was here  )

See thats quite interesting. The car is a D9, but I noticed the other week, when the wheels were off, that the front pads are down to the wear sensors. I am changing them this weekend, but I wonder if that is causing the problem? Obviously, I would have thought I would see a warning every time I braked, but these French electrics, anything could happen, and it could be the pads are causing a fault which is being interpreted as something else.

Yes, yes, you're correct, I am clutching at straws!!

I will report back after saturday!

Thanks again all.

Notice any statement I say which proves to be crap is always preceeded by "I think" or similar?

If it makes you feel any better I have the same problem - according to the wiring diagram there are two seperate switches for the handbrake
on light and the low fluid level warning and though the warning does come on when the handbrake is applied I suspect that the shoes have some sort of warning switch when they are low or not adjusted correctly. Now I am happy that there is plenty of fluid in the pot and the handbrake is functioning very well in all respects so the damb thing can wait until I check over the the brake system at the alloted time. I heard a rumour that the system does use the same warning as the low lining sensor but since the hand brake is seperate from the disc working brake I'm not too worried as long as it holds well above 25%. This may sound a bit reckless but I am a qualified engineer and know what I'm about so unless you do
get someone to look at it who does.

I've recently had the rear disc's,pads and shoe's changed on my D'9
and low level still bleeps so doesn't look like it's a sensor on the shoe's
that's causing it .

It's the micro switch attached to the handbrake lever! it gets clogged up with dust and fluff etc and gets sticky. They're only about £2.00 but quite a lot of swearing to fit it. I just give mine a good old work out! free's it off for ages.

Left hand or right   .

Joking aside can you explain in more detail do you just keep lifting up and down or hold it up for a bit then release?

Sorry rappy, but yes - for reference you just work the lever fully up and down very quickly for 15 seconds or so :)

I just think bits of fluff get stuck in the switch.

Best to do it somewhere quiet though in case you get some funny looks
