Diesel Fumes

I've been told to check that the rubber seal running from side to side at the back of the engine bay is not worn or too compressed. That seal sits against the bonnet and seals the
engine bay from the air inlets. It won't solve the fume issue but may stop them entering the cabin.

I would of thought injector seal as they are prone to it. The only thing i would say you may have diesel lying somwhere underneath the bonnet, What i did with mine with the engine running also before anythong else spraying lots of wd40 on electrical componets under the bonnet. Then i would give it a dam good jet wash. Remove the plastic hdi cover first though. Once you feel its clean go for a good drive to remove any water thats lyting under the bonnet. Hope that sorts it for you it did for me

Any joy? I was thinking after steam clean you should be able to see if the damp patch reappears.

My 110 has been doing this for ages now and again the smell enters the cabin sometimes and also when you open the drivers door when you stop you can smell it, or just walking in front of the car too.

I don't have any obvioius Diesel fuel leaks but I do have a generous oil leak at the Turbo and I wondered if the Diesel smell was actually "Diesely" smelling engine oil - you know a bit like how Petrol's engine oil can smell "petroly".

By all accounts a proper Diesel fuel leak will leave the immediate area very clean looking.

There's two types on the HDi - the KKK and the Garret type. Mines the KKK which is reported as being the lesser of the two and likes to leak oil from the return/drain line. I can't be arsed with it TBH and will just wait for it to do something worse.

Have you checked the leak off pipes, they only last a few years before they start weeping. A little diesel smells a long way.
