F*CK ME!, how much?

Post by Blue406 »

Was talking to a mate today. I just found out today that he had had to scrap his 5 year old 80K mile Saab 93.
I asked him how come, did he smash it?

"No" he answered "It needed a new diesel pump"

At first I didn't believe him. Scrap a brilliant car because it needed a new pump?!?!
Now... you'll probably be asking "Why not fit a new one, or repair it?" Which is precisely what I thought and asked.

You'd kinda guess a new pump, plus VAT and fitting would be... what... £500 at the top range?

You'd be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off.

He asked for quotes from several different places, cheapest quote: £2200 ex VAT, just for the part alone. Tools to remove the thing alone would cost £1500. Scappies want £1800 for a used pump. And Ebay sellers know how much these cost and seemingly sell them for top price too.

I jest not!!! Bejeesus! I thought Pugs were expensive for their parts.

People get charged $5k AUD for 2.1TD 406 Diesel pumps here...

Most end up doing an exchange for a reburb one in the UK and end up paying 800 quid + shipping! BTW my keyboard doesn't have the "pound" symbol :P

Ahh, that's the price you pay for so much wonderful technology :( At least it was something useful, I have a feeling the breakers yard's will soon be filling up with cars in perfect nick, apart from stupid electronic faults.

9-3 Aero's are awesome to look at. Shame the GM 900 was such a dud to drive. Took my mates 900 2.3 for a spin the other week and it was a pile of sh*t. Scuttle shake back through the wheel, heavy clutch, notchy shift, weird driving position and I couldn't work out how to start the bloody thing when I stalled it....
