Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Err, how much brighter? Is it comming on dim with the sidelights? What happens when you stick the hazards on? I'm thinking corrosion, maybe on the wiring to the back end of the car.

Sounds like it's getting a live feed from somewhere other than the intended place. The brake lights are triggered by a normally-closed switch mounted behind the top of the brake pedal, but if there's dimming when it's pressed I wouldn't look there for the fault. Sounds like a short somewhere at the back, where the rear lighting loom meets the main dash loom, or (urgh) somewhere along the loom to the rear a couple of wires have been stripped

Paying some money on servicebox (you can do it by an hours access for a couple of quid) will give you access to diagrams which may help

I saw this -

and I thought of this thread :cheesy:

There was a guy on here before with crazy back lights (admitedly a D9) and it was down to corroded connections under the drivers carpet.

Can't remember if it was before the hackery or not and can't remember the guy's name  can anyone remember? he was one of these nice newbies - didn't he post that pic of his mashed D8 (when it was fairly new) taken at the scrap yard? sure it was the same chap!..........not helping much am I?

*get's coat, and put's in on this time*

RapierKen (I would have found it much quicker if he's spelt "squeamish" right :cheesy: ) He's not been around for a while, I presume he's busy eating gearboxes with that 4.0 Irmsher lump in his Carton.
