Christ, the stuff of nightmares. Are you still getting flashbacks of that?

How about "oh look, my car's rolling backwards down that hill..."?

Happened twice remember... Frequent nightmares, especially as after the first time I've been religiously lifting the car by the bonnet to check EVERY SINGLE TIME I close the bonnet, and that didn't save me from the garage's incompetence making it happen a 2nd time

I imagine the bonnet would just "open" in a controlled way due to the gas struts unlike a flappy bonnet with old fashioned prop.

I am probably grossly incorrect though given the air pressure under the bonnet at speed once it opens more than say 45 degrees

You must know what I mean though - without the gas struts it would twat the roof instantly

What gas struts? As soon as the air pressure under the bonnet caused by speed entering the radiator grille is enough to lift the bonnet enough to directly scoop up air, it's over in a fraction of a second and there's no time to react. The strut mounts on the bodywork get bent upward then the struts either pop out of the ball joints or the ball cups shatter. Remember there's enough force involved to bend the bonnet hinge mountings (hard to move these back with a 3ft breaker bar!) as well as forcing the hinges to an obtuse angle with enough force to make the aerial mount almost flush with the rest of the roof

On the upside, I've found the severity and suddenness of it happening probably saved my life both times since it put me into a strange trance-like calmness where I pulled over safely and accurately (before panicking). Panicking would more than likely have resulted in a bad bad accident multiple car+truck accident the first time at least (was overtaking a truck on a bend at 70mph at the time) whereas I calmly aborted the overtake, tucked in behind the truck and stuck the hazards on before slowing and putting it up the grass bank :)

christ what's happened to ebay? I used to just put '406' in the search box then browse through 'car parts', but all that's gone and you've got to mess about with check boxes and everything now??!?

Are you sure you're doing it right?
Looky. Is this part of a competition to put as many spelling mistakes in an ebay ad as possible?

I really shouldn't keep looking on ebay, it always makes me depressed how cheap you can get stuff :(
