Hi,
Picked up the 2.0 turbo exec recently, not sure how the turbo should sound on this (spooling etc), and if it is actually working, what is a definite test to see if it is working??
thanks

A nice easy test is to pop the bonnet, get a grip of the intercooler hose supplying the inlet manifold and then blip the throttle. When the revs rise the hose will expand in your hand i.e. the turbo is providing boost.
If the hose shrinks down that's bad.
It's worth noting that the turbo on these is notahigh boosting revvy racer - it just provides a nice shove of torque at lower revs, say 2000 to 4000 rpm.

You can barely hear the wastegate on these cars and you simply can't hear the turbo whistle. If you can do 0-60 in under 10 secs, it's working. If it's more like 20-30secs and the car struggles on hills then it's not working

Re: 2.0 Turbo Exec - Is the Turbo working ?
i find that a very strange comment. true but strange, i have an SRi turbo.. its been tweaked a little but i can snap 0-60 in 6.5 secs and the turbo whistles like hell, ive got a baileys dumpvalve, but i think the actuator arm on the waste gate is seized need to get it off and have a look...

Re: 2.0 Turbo Exec - Is the Turbo working ?
The only time I ever heard the turbo on my tubby was when I drove through some country lanes to a breakers yard... without a bonnet. The dump valve was sometimes audible on country lanes (with a bonnet) too, although the road had to be narrow, surrounded by tall hedges/walls and the windows openTurboTaxi wrote:i find that a very strange comment. true but strange, i have an SRi turbo.. its been tweaked a little but i can snap 0-60 in 6.5 secs and the turbo whistles like hell

Is that possible in a sub 200bhp non-LSD FWD carTurboTaxi wrote:0-60 in 6.5 secs

Not on the road. Around 7.5s in the v6 which has a considerably heavier (extra 150kg over the tubby) front end, and even then it's struggling for traction all the way (in 2nd you don't get the pedal to the floor until about 45-50mph otherwise you just wheelspin). Might be possible on a track with soft racing slicks though...Welton wrote:Is that possible in a sub 200bhp non-LSD FWD carTurboTaxi wrote:0-60 in 6.5 secs

Re: 2.0 Turbo Exec - Is the Turbo working ?
ill have the exact time after santa pod. but belive me. the SRi moves, launching it from the lights at 4500 rpm it will do 0-60 in under 7 secs trust me, it mite sound wrong and u mite think im blaggin it but trust me, the ole girl moves, even as fwd with no lsd at 9.5psi. heads been skimmed to the limit, upgraded turbo and ported, decat 3" stainless system and boosted fuel pressure and the engine was reconned at 80000 miles, its hench man, if anyone goin to santa pod for USc keep an eye out for me on the track, i will post 0-60/0-100/1/4 mile times aswell. mind you the 18 inch alloys will make sum diff to the accuracy of the speedo. so santa pod will be the real test ;)
