Another year on the road :D

Post by STALLED »

The 406 passed its annual inspection - Hooray, 12 months tax and insurance paid for! Only thing I knew it would fail on is a shabby tyre - got it replaced at $150 later...

Anyways - here's a nice shiney pic of it from the weekend. Sydney French Car Day 2008! It oughta look clean cause i washed it, clay bared it, polished it, waxed it and vacuumed it!

Here are some more pics of the day:

Congratulations! It's looking good too (wtf's clay bar anyway?)

Nice pics of the frogs, there's some mint looking DSs there (is that an English made ID?) - they all died of rust centuries ago in the UK, as did Caravelles - and how cool is that Traction Avant? I can't imagine how you could keep that SM going way down there, parts availability zero I'd expect. Just what is that ute? Looks very interesting.

I think the Blue ID was a "Australian Assembled" car - 1963 from memory? The ute was a 203 - there is a strong following of them down here as they won many reliability trials over the years and they were considered to be one tough car! Not a fan of the Caravelles...but that SM is gorgeous! The owner wants 28k for it, it's on historic rego and LHD so not a good proposition as a daily driver and it can only be driven to and from club meetings - looks awesome though! As for parts there is a bloke who specializes in them...it's an ex California car!

Oh and a clay bar is this - Gets rid of the crap off the paint work and makes it more shiney! I thought mine came up pretty good considerig its 11 years old and gets parked outside!

SO how many SMs are there in Oz? I thought there were only a handful left in the world

So, that Clay Bar's a rubbing/cutting compound, looks a bit pricey in that box! I use T-cut and an old rag, does the job but not a lot else. I couldn't find anything similar here so I had my dad smuggle some out to me, looks like I could have been looking for the wrong thing :?

I reckon there would be around 20-40 SM's here in Australia - maybe 15 on the road? Maybe more - who knows?!?

Was down at the High St market and I was in my parents car (I was 15 at the time) and an awesome Gold one pulled up behind us in the parking lot! Got out and had a 30 min chat with the owner - he was so surprised that I knew so much about it! There is another one I have seen in Roseville - they are around...me thinks that there are a few owners not in the Citroen club and take their cars out on the odd day!

I wouldnt call the clay bar a cutting compound - it more cleans the impurities off the paint and smooths it out! It's not like a proper "cut" of the paintwork!

It doesn't look like a solvent, so I presume it's a mild abrasive. I could be wrong of course...
some know-all on Wiki wrote:A total of 12,920 SMs were produced during its lifetime. The production figures for individual years were:

1970: 868
1971: 4988
1972: 4036
1973: 2619
1974: 294
1975: 115

Christ!

I once saw a pair for sale really cheap in Milton Keynes but it was one of those rare moments I used my head instead of my heart.
