Spitfire to the rescue! (Bike exhaust repair!)

Post by teamster1975 »

Travelling up to Cambridge on Tuesday I came off the A1 and thought the bike was sounding a bit loud; I pulled over and there was a crack half way round the silencer :shock:
It got me back to 5 miles away from home (this was around 11:30pm) and suddenly it was sounding like a prop plane taking off :shock:
The entire lot had sheared off, rusted from the inside :x
I've ordered a new stainless can (£200 :cry: ) which I won't have for 10 days so started rifling around the recycling bin for a botch;

Quality botch job! :cheesy:
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Looks good enough to me to go a few thousand! You still have the original exhaust on it? I'm thinking it's going to get a lot lighter soon!

Nah shouldn't do :wink:
It was such a rough break that with all the binding it can't really go anywhere. I've hooked the wire around the centre stand stop so the two parts are pulled together anyway (Unless some sod undoes the exhaust hanger!)

I think steve meant it will get "lighter" when replaced with stainless :wink:

And I meant loudier cos stainless normally gives better sound over standard.

I think that's what we meant anyway :cheesy:

Sarky? Moi?? :shock: The stock chrome plated mild steel rust from the inside out and fall off systems weigh a tonne, a replacement stainless system should only weigh half as much (if that), shouldn't necessarily be any louder (has to have a CE mark on it for the MOT anyway) and should last forever.

edit: loosing grasp on English language, kaj hočete od mene?
