406 turbo 2.0 problem
hi
i have bought turbo engine which detail is as follow
size :2000cc
8v
turbo
from peugeot 406
i have fitted in 405 with no problem about size of engine
so thats all the information i think i should say before asking my question
i have runned the engine with some modification as follow
1.i have run this engine with out its original ecu ,i have used sl96 which i can adjust the fuel consumption
2.change the gearbox (gearbox is for peugeot 405)
3.change the coil to msd and
and here what is my problem
in first and secound gear the engine is ok but from 3rd to above if it keep knoking
the most important point is that because sl96 does not have socket for knock sensor ,i have not pluged the knock sensor to any where
any idea what should i do ?
thanks

Re: 406 turbo 2.0 problem
When I googled SL96 all I can find is it's the ecu for a 1.8 non-turbo car, I'm amazed it's running at all!

Re: 406 turbo 2.0 problem
u are right sl96 is for non turbo car ,the reason i have used sl96 is that i couldent find the original ecu with the wiring
what about sl2000 ,this ecu is also for non turbo car but i think it has knock sensor
would u think it would be a good idea to install sl2000?

Re: 406 turbo 2.0 problem
Sorry, I'm guessing still no but I'm not really sure: is the turbo waste gate on this engine not controlled by the ecu?
I'm still amazed you managed to get it to run

Re: 406 turbo 2.0 problem
i have solder the waste gate to it body so the waste gate no longer work and some time in first gear the turbo pressure is nearly 16 psi
ok apart from knocking ,can u predict how many HP my engine should be with 15 or 16 psi ?

Re: 406 turbo 2.0 problem
can any one please tell me in my case which ecu might help me to reduce the knock
sl2000(has wire for knock ) or sl96(doesnt have knock sensor)
please help
or tell me where can find out more information about these ecus as i have googled it but i couldnt find any information
thanks

Re: 406 turbo 2.0 problem
dude trust me, if ur gonna run im guessin what is an XU10J2CTE lump from the 1997/98 SRi Turbo 15/16 PSI will kill it, the internals will only take it for a few thousand miles, my SRi turbo was run and 12 psi for 2 years and before i bought it it had to be reconditioned. the standard internals just cant take the boost, the engine was designed for 8 PSI 10 topps. the standard turbo will burn out as the oil feed is insufficiant for that amount of boost, it will run dry and cause excvessive wear. jus thought id let u kno

Re: 406 turbo 2.0 problem
ok thanks a lot for ur help
what HP do u expect from 15 psi ,would u think about 250hp or more?
the reason i am saying that is my 0-100 kmh is nearly 5.5

Re: 406 turbo 2.0 problem
mine pumped 207bhp at the wheels from 11 psi so realisticly 15 running the std clutch nd box ida say anywhere from 230-250 eayh ur about right,. 5.5 secs ir realy good to 60mph/100kmh

Re: 406 turbo 2.0 problem
Yes - invest in some proper boost control, 3bar map sensor, or a decent ECU. Even if you can adjust fueling with the ECU you've install your adjustments will only be based on engine load and throttle position, but the motor you're using only has a 2bar map sensor and so its output voltage will flat-line once the manifold pressure hits 14.5psi. So when you hit 15-16 psi or more you can't add any extra fuel. The knocking is probably because it's running too lean and/or with too much ignition advance.linux44 wrote:can any one please tell me in my case which ecu might help me to reduce the knock
Re: 406 turbo 2.0 problem
As far as I know, the 1.8 16v with sagem sl96 mounted on the 406, have knock sensor. The Peugeot Service box indicates that too.
