am i being fleeced???

Post by puglover »

ok phoned the insurance company today to see about getting 2 stone chips repaired free under my policy..

insurance says because the chips are within 2 inches of each other the windscreen has to be replaced because they are too close together..

insurance windscreen excess is £50.00

i know this is cheap compared to buying and fitting a screen out of your own pocket but are they just trying to get my £50.00 off me??
btw its the R.A.C. doing the job and its booked in for monday...

For future reference you can take it straight to RAC Auto Windscreens, Autoglass etc. and ask them if it's repairable. They'll prolly do it there and then and they'll deal with the insurance company for you.

My Bro-in-law just got told by his insurace company that a chip in his screen wasn't repairable without anyone even looking at it (can't remember why but it was a lame excuse) . They made him pay the £60 XS by card before they's book it in. We took the car to get it done (Autoglass) and asked the guy to check if it could be repaired, he said no problem  . He then proceeded to repair it, then altered the job type on the computer and rang the insurance company to ensure that they initiated a refund of the £60 to BIL's card. Top Bloke! 8)

I doubt they're paying out nearly £300-400 (how much mine cost me) just to take £50 off someone - it doesn't make financial sense. If there's two chips close together, there's a good chance of there being a hairline fracture between them, so a new screen would probably be needed sooner or later anyway...

I'd take a new screen for £50 any day. It's so nice being able to drive towards the sun and actually be able to see out the windscreen :D

That is indeed a very good point *reaches for brick, then remembers he can't actually get windscreen cover here*

I don't have comprehensive insurance so it's money out of my own pocket. Think I'll go comp next year though

Well worth it if you can afford it, I never found it that much more expensive then 3rd party, fire & theft either. (I'd have to pay over a £ grand here, even with my 50%ncb :( )

I had my windscreen replaced by the RAC earlier in the year, they did a top notch job. £70 excess with Elephant though :frown:
