hello
i have fitted engine from 406 (2.0 turbo 8v) into my 405 and now got some question about how to fit msd 6al and timing control into my car
let me explain what have i done to electronic part of my car
as u can see my problem related to knock of my engine(in my other post in mechanical part) i have changed the ignition coil which is orginally installed on the engine to other system which is from 405
,by that i mean i have used coil and distrubuter so i can retard and advance the engine manualy yb rotating the distributer to decrease the amount of knock .
in the first sitution which car was working with it original ignition coil the car keep knocking in all gears because of i havent used the original ecu instead have fitted sagem sl96 which is ecu for non turbo car
and now my big problem is ,i dont know which system might have better performance with msd ignition 6al + timing control(part no 8680)
my idea is if i use the original ignition coil ,it would be better cause timing control from msd can advance and retard the engine inside the car with out needing to open the bonnet and rotate the distributer
please help and advise me what should i do
all i am doing is to reduce the amount of my engine knock
these are the pic of original ignition coil and also distributer and coil for better understanding

coil:http://img.alibaba.com/photo/201251758/ ... N.summ.jpg
sorry i couldnt find the distributer pic ,i could just firnd the distributer cap
any way it would give u and idea of what i am trying to say
thanks

Original coil:

New coil:

Dizzy cap:

As the engine is distributer-less, where did you fit it?? I can't help thinking you would be better off talking to MSD themselves.

Re: install msd 6al+timing controll
ok let me explain
what would happen ,the head cylinder of peugeot 405 carburetor and 406 turbo ignition is 90% the same so i got the idea of changing the original coil and the holder which is made from aluminum to 405 coil+distrubuter and holder .
in my case my car performance has increase because of i have ability to retard the timing which i didnt have with the original coil and now that i can install msd with ability of adjust timing i think the original coil would be better (take out the distributer and coil)
what would u think
any idea?

Re: install msd 6al+timing controll
I think that MSD electronic ignition is designed to work with a distributor, looking on the instruction sheet they don't seem to do a distributor-less set up. This timing control you have appears to need an earth for retarding the ignition (black & grey wire) but I don't think that's practical for using the thing on the road.
I'm not sure which coil would be better, maybe the electronic ignition needs to see the right primary resistance. I'm thinking maybe you need to be looking at the distributor advance/retard, I presume you have two possible positions - one where the engine idles ok but gives you pre-ignition and the other where the pre-ignition is gone but the engine will not idle.
MSD have a forum on their website, maybe it's worth asking there.
