Fuel Starvation 1.9TD

I'm new to this site so "HELLO" to everyone.
I have just started having the engine block light coming on,on my 1.9TD I called out the RAC because I was a few miles from home, and he said he could not connect me to his diagnostic m/c as my car was before 2002, when I checked Haynes it said Fuel so I've had to book in with the stealers for late next week for a diagnostic [£48] I'm hoping they say injectors not pump.
I am having trouble starting and Friday it stalled on me twice, so now I've laid it up.
Now the main reason for this letter, How hard is it to change the injectors on a 1.9TD and do I need specialist tools.

I don't know about the 1.9 but on the 2.1 you need a deep slotted socket, there's a wire for the needle lift sensor on #1 you have to clear. I looked into doing this on my 2.1 but no-one could get me this socket here (I live on Mars of course ) so I ended up having it done .

Why do you think it's fuel? It could be lots of other things, hopefully you'll know after the diagnostic. Umm, where are you having it done?

The diagnostic is being done by Dutton Forshaw @ Cardiff,the reason I think it's fuel is that when the light first come on, if I dipped the clutch for a couple of seconds it went out then later when it come on I had no power,then twice it stalled on me,once in a very tight embarrising place,{everyone blowing the horn]. Ive changed the fuel filter,glow plugs although I couldn't get at the one on the extreme left, although I didn't think the glow plugs do anything once the engine is running lucky I've got new and a good battery as it takes a lot of turning over to get started.
Go on frighten me what else could it be.???????

Oh blimey, I dunno, I guess crank sensor, stuck EGR... I'd have thought an injector would have given you more of a mis-fire. Speaking of which, cold start device... I was wondering if you had a specific reason for this fuel starvation diagnosis (apart from the ramblings of Haynes), that's all.

Stealers what a joke.!!!!!!

I just came back from DUTTON FORSHAW with a list,

Fault with needle lift [Injector]
Selenoid valve on pump
Pump primer.
Needs pump to be sent off for specialist repairs customer to advice.
6 hours @ 80 pound per hour.plus parts

So I went around to Lucas's to see if the selenoid could be fitted without having to take the pump off, the diagnostic confused the fella in Lucas so he called out one of the fellas who put in bits here and there and said there's nothing wrong with the selenoid, the manager who was standing on the o/s of the car said "Whoa what's this" and pointed towards the bulb in the fuel line had sucked itself in and was starving the engine of fuel.
So the truth is there was a blockage in the tank and the fella from Lucas's adviced me what to do so now my beauty is OK again. 47 Pound for a WRONG diagnostic check

I should have said something sorry. The dealers here diagnosed here diagnosed the misfire on my 2.1 as a faulty fuel pump (£££££), rather than fork out I drove it for another year until it was almost undrivable, then I bought a set of injectors to try, found out I couldn't actually buy the right tool here for love nor money, took it to the stealers to do who didn't even have the right tool themselves ( ) so I took it to an injection specialist for them to change the injectors, and they diagnosed the needle lift sensor.

I very nearly posted "at least you're not taking it to the stealers" but then I realised you were, but I held back on the grounds that they can't all be useless. I'm glad you decided not to trust what they said anyway.

One for the knowledge base I reckon:

Try getting your money back using the Sale of Goods Act? They sold you something not fit for purpose...

Might be a hard job applying the 1979 Sale of Goods Act to a service...

How about the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982? Maybe we should save up all things similar and take out a class action against Peugeot.
