Well done a little searching and have come up with a couple of things,
yes the tank is 70ltr capacity ,a guy on yahoo answers says when the low
level fuel light comes on you have 7ltrs left so according to that i left that
service station with 91.98 ltrs in my tank
This morning i have phoned Trading Standards they took all the information
off me then advised me to write to the manager of the service station stating
what my complaint is and ask for a refund of the difference and send it
recorded post ,meanwhile one of their officers is going to look into it
and has given me a reference number and told me to contact them when i
get a reply. They told me to give the service station 14 days to reply and to
contact them then if i have had a reply or not .

ps. contacted main stealers to confirm fuel tank capacity couldn't tell me cos
nobody know's it

I'd say more like 10 litres - because I used to have very consistent consumption on my tubby I often did around 70 miles at 42.5mpg (the light would typically come on shortly before I joined the M62 on the way to work), park up at home, get into the car the next morning and still see the fuel gauge twitch. A couple of times I'd see no movement at all on the needle in the morning and still make the 6 miles to BP, although I'd be crapping it.

Update!! Sent a recorded delivery letter to the manager of filling station
yesterday ( no flies on me.. welly & steve :P ) she phoned me this morning
to ask the time i filled up and what pump, she said her car is a 52 406 estate
diesel and she knows you cant put that much in.
After 30 mins she phoned me back to say i was on cctv and the person who
used the pump before me had filled up with petrol so i didn't pay their bill,
all the money and fuel out for that pump added up correctly for that day
so she is going to have the pump tested, she did ask if my car had been
fitted with a larger tank, anyone know anything about that ??,

Nah, why on earth would you be able to specify a "larger tank" on a car that already holds 15 gallons and can travel 750 miles.

That's just a question (admitedly justified) they would tend to ask.

Sounds like this could get interesting........

I really hate that, especially when they wake me up at sunrise by walking on my face - aaaAAAGHHH indeed :x

Does she really think someone would order up a custom made tank to hold an extra gallon? I suppose you could ask pug if they made one but I reckon the chances of it are even less than her not knowing someone's tampered with the pumps...

Maybe puggy's driving a special edition 406 estate developed by Peugeot's crack team of motorsport experts with a huge tank and 185BHP designed to accompany their 2001 paris-dakar [spelling] team 8)

Right. I've just got back from the petrol station. I reset the trip computer when the fuel light came on, and here's the result:

34.0 miles at 23.3mpg - which is 6.63 litres used with the light on

Now here's the thing: I only put 73.55 litres in, and I think my record's 78 litres to brim. So by my moderately scientific (but no wastage) reckoning the low fuel light comes on at around 12 litres (including the fuel system)

TADA!
