Great News!

Post by steve_earwig »

Well, sort of... It won't make much difference to us but everyone else seems pleased.

As I may have mentioned, I have this stupid year-on-year temporary residence thing which makes registering a car (&insuring etc.) a complete arse. My present one ends in September, then I have one more before I can apply for permenant residence. Woo-hoo.

So anyway, we trundled into the cop shop today as a kind of preliminary, just to see if anything's changed. It all has, owning a house here now doesn't make the grade and I can only get 6 months, after which I have to sod off somewhere for another 6. fcuk. So, no registering a car because it'd be stupid paying for a year and only getting 6 months, and then getting kicked into touch...

Not to mention who's gonna look after my house? Who's gonna look after my girlfriend's house? What about my puddy tatts??? Argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The solution? Simple:

I'm getting married in the morning, ding dong the bells are going to chime. Feather and tar me, but don't use the army, and get me to the church, get me to the church on time!"

I know, I know, but I'm using my head as opposed to what guys are usually meant to think with  Besides, it's better than the usual reason here: Catholics->no protection->pudding club->shotgun wedding

Best of luck Steve, I'll raise a glass to you both later! :D

Edit: Have you set a date yet or is being engaged enough to placate the powers that be?

No date yet but I have a feeling they're going to want one for my application. We're off to the embassy Monday so I should know more then, then it's find a registry office time...

It's our 6th wedding anniversary tomorrow!
Terrible timing though, I had to take my wife to A&E yesterday with excruciating pelvic pain.
They are undecided whether it's appendicitis or her endometriosis is back, got to wait until Monday until someone qualified can give her an ultrasound :frown:

Cheers pipple :cheesy:

Actually, she's keeping her own surname: she could take mine or have a double-barrelled (oddly, I could too :? ) but, as no-one has a clue how to pronounce mine (it's always amusing watching them try) and she'd have to go through a rediculous amount of bureaucracy to change her name on everything, it's so much easier if she just stays the same.

Well, after weeks of wading through stupifying amounts of bureaucracy and several hundred quid the lighter, I finally have a date: on the 4th October at 11am I'm getting married. Black tie and clown outfit.

The trouble is my visa runs out on the 17th September (just under two weeks away for those reading this thread in years to come, and probably wondering why it's here but that's your problem) as does the registration on my car :( They can't bung me out when it's all ongoing but they sure as hell can nick me for having no insurance or registration. :x I may end up paying 150 quid to give my D8 to my other half after all, so she can register it for me to drive it for two weeks and then flog it to some demented cripple.
