I have a 1996 406 exec with all the usual extras... including a multifunction display. Since ive had the car all it seems to say is "F" which i presume is degrees fharenheit. I cant seem to find any wiring diagrams in the haynes manual for this. I have a non standard head unit so the stalk on the wheel doesnt wok (Dont know if its related)... Whats the display supposed to tell me???? And any ideas how to get it tell me something, anything will do.....
Mine is a bit newer than yours and not an exec, so I don't know if they are similar at all.
On mine, both sides of the display screen there is a button.
Pressing both buttons at the same time (hold 1 in and click on the other) takes you into the settings options.
There are various languages, metric or imperial measurements etc.
Ooops thanks for bringing this one back to the top Simon...
Minipug, it's been 6 years since I sold my mk1 so you'll have to bear with me on this. The display unit is mostly for the radio, and external temperature and trip computer on certain models. In order to change what it displays gently lever the display unit out of the dash, on one side of the unit you'll see a rotary switch with 4 position IIRC. Sorry I can't remember which position does what so you'll have to experiment to see if any of them are any use to you.

Not going to be much use if the temperature sensor (located in the passenger wing mirror) doesn't work, there's no OEM stereo to display, and most likely being an exec, no trip computer wiring
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Depending on the engine you've got it is possible to get all of this working! It involves a bit of soldering but it's a worthwhile project
Have a search on 406 trip computer and you'll find lots of info, mjb and myself have done the mod, I'm sure others have too

It all makes sense now.... Thought it may have been something to do with the headunit.... And also ...someone has changed the passenger door with a non exec one (idiots) including mirror. So no temperature either....
Although i got nothing diplaying at least i know why now ....
