It's been hardboard on the 2 '97 tubbies and the '98 V6 I've had my hands on...

I was going to swap them but the plastic one's a bit tatty, but if the hardboard one's that good maybe I will anyway. I guess the saloon's doesn't need to be that good but I have a tendency to stick loads of stuff in my estates, I really don't need the floor collapsing.
I just lift the (luxury) boot carpet with the plastic pull handle thing and there's the wheel looking back at me. All held (poorly) in place with the OE luggage type strap.

Here's mine, just lift the boot carpet and that's it, no fancy cover or anything. I suppose the estate's boot floor is reinforced to take the loads it was intended for?
