2002 406 estate HDI 110 FUEL CONSUMPTION

Folks, what is the expected fuel consumption of the HDI in typical city like London, ( normally 20 to 40mph, under 2000 revs, stop and start) etc.

The reason why i ask is i put in £55 of fuel, tha tank reached 75% full and within a week its down to 50% and i've barely done 100 miles!!

I have but i forgot to set the trip to 0, but i reckon i'm getting real low figures.

My HDi would do 55mpg most of the time. However on a trip to the big smoke (aka London) and it reckoned it was doing 27mpg!

I think if you carefull you could get 35mpg ish. Have to remember 46 is pretty big and heavy car so uses bit of fuel to get it moving.

Stop/start you'll get about 33 mpg.

Thnaks for your replies, the first indicator on the trip records the current mpg when you're driving, the second one had 33.4mpg and the third one has 35mpg. I manageg to reset the second one (holding down the end of the indicator stalk for 10secs) and will see what i get now, i expected 36+.

Top half always went slowly on mine, botom half went quickly. could get almost 600 to first half, but only another 250 ish to next "half"

Sounds pretty good to me around town. You should be up around 50mpg on a nice long run...

ok let me get this straight, i put in £55 of diesel, thats 45 litres,

55 / 122p = 45

45 divide by 4.55 = 9.9 gallons

therefore 9.9 x 34 = 337 miles locally

Is my maths correct on the above?

As my car seems to be giving me much less (i'm not trying to rely on the car computer here)??

Yeah your maths looks right.

The best way to do it properly is to go to the petrol station and fill it to the brim, then reset the trip. Then at the next fill up, note down the milage and amount you put in. My last fill up was 64.80l and that lasted me for 486.1 miles.

So 64.8 divided by 4.546 = 14.254 gallons.

486.1 divided by 14.254 = 34.10 miles per gallon.

Not bad for a 2 litre petrol estate.... . Interestingly, whenever I work it out it makes the computer look pessimistic, computer said 33.7 this time but sometimes it's a whole 1mpg less than the maths says

i was always told to do mileage divided by fuel used (in litres) then multiply by 4.55 to get mpg

does it work out the same

Yes, it's a sheep's one he bought yesterday to put into a big pie with some kidney, liver, loads of other offal and a nice rich gravy. He has that for breakfast every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday......

Because we're too bloody lazy to change them, and we think that by pressing the button harder we'll magically squeeze a last drop of power out. Do you take the back of the remote off and rub the batteries to warm them though, works every time

You got me on the last one, hate cats, never bathed one, never will! Bathing kids can be pretty dangerous though.
