Buying a406

Post by ataq »

Hey all, I have a pug 106 and I am a member of the 106owners club, I want to buy a 406 in a few months but i am wondering is the smallest engine a 1.8???
I would really like a 1.4 because of insurance rates here, I got a qoute for 3700 for a 1.8 406 and I am paying 2400 for my pug 106 over here in Ireland

The smallest you can get outside France is a 1.8, however it's woefully underpowered for the task of hauling a 406 around. What you don't seem to realise is that while the 106 only weighs around 800KG, the 406 has a kerb weight between 1400KG and 1700KG depending on model

A 1.4 406 probably wouldn't even make it to 30mph with passengers onboard!
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Hi there ataq (attack?) is that pounds or eurines? Either way it could be bars of gold - why so damn expensive? Is that the way things are or are you 18 with masses of points and a drink driving conviction?? You can buy these cars for that sort of money in England...

There are 1.6s over here (imports from France?) but I think driving one and keeping up with the traffic would be a real challenge.

Ya €2400 Euros, Its expensive I know but what can I do, no penalty points or convictions, I only have a provisional license and am 20 so it kinda goes against me over here, this country is a rip off for most things anyways. I really want a 406 in a few months but i couldnt stand paying 3700E for insurance and 500€ road tax
