antirollbar bushes

Post by superdooper »

How easy is it to change the antirollbar bushes?

Garage has quoted £17 (each i think) for the bushes and £35 labour.

Thanks

The anti roll bar mount bushes or the anti roll drop links? front rear?

I'd guess it the front drop links at that price. There two nuts to change, but can be bit of a pain. You have to put allen key in the end of the bolt and then remove the nut, its very easy to round the allen key hole, in which case you'll have to cut them off. I think a lot of garages will just cut them off.

I tried to do one of mine and rounded the allen key off and had to take it to garage to get it cut off.

£17/1 hour sounds bout right for changing both.

Its the first and last time im taking the car to that garage. Tried to tell me i needed a whole new exhaust and 2 front tyres (had them done last month!!!).

I took it to them as it has a knocking noise over small bumps at low speed.

I assume its the fronts (although the back steps out round corners...need to see what that is!) and i assume its the drop links...

To be honest I'd do the drop links and the bushes at the same time! It's not a terrible job to do yourself.

I paid about £35 supplied and fitted about 6 months ago, so your figures sound about right.

Thanks all,

Neil, what bushes were they? Trying to work out what is causing the clunk and the weird handling/roll!

Sounds familier :)

My rear main anti roll bar mounting bushes are shot and the off side one requires the tank to be dropped to get the bolts out :x the bar itself is now able to "slide" through it's mounting and I surmise this causes that strange feeling at the back.

I'm waiting for my mechanic to find a cheaper way of doing this. I will have it done though and will post a new thread about it at the time.

You know it's not as bad as all that if the D9 is like the D8. You can disconnect the filler hose and mask it and the tank off to prevent any sh1t getting in there, I cable tied a bag over the end of the hose & the tank union.

I'm impressed teamy! I didn't know you'd dabbled down there on yours

So, like, is it just the filler pipe that gets in the way?

My secret's out!
Yeah that was the only one I had to take off, I didn't need to drop the tank far to get at the bolts. I don't know whether the setup is different on the diesels though :?

Front bottom anti roll bar bush was replaced on mine. He picked it up on a service, I pulled on it and there was the slightest "clicking" feel, but he said it may fail the MOT if it was picked up (and the MOt was the next month)
